It's a fair point though - absent a true 119 game season round robin, you can always go with the "we'll never know because the teams didn't play" - it's the same BS argument that people used in 1994 to claim that the Sonics were better than the Rockets.
No kidding. So no system is 100% perfect huh? Guess the NCAA tournament is a sham because the 66th ranked team didn't get a shot... Point is, more inclusive means more legitimacy. You know this, you're a smart guy, and I can't believe you continue to defend something so illogical and broken.
Sam, no one is suggesting, or would ever suggest, that every team play in a playoff. Don't try to distract by throwing out these issues that no one is concerned about. You can't try to defend something that is 90% crap by saying that replacing it with something that is 10% crap isn't an upgrade/fair.
Say what you want about BSU but they never cease to entertain. They're a fun team to watch. They deserve props, they're not the only team that plays nobodies but they're the only team that keeps winning them all.
OU was a 8th in the country going into the FIesta and lost to Texas that season. They backed into the Big 12 title game when Colt got injured vs. KSU and then the horns blew their last two games.
Meh. I was rooting for Boise simply because of the fond 2007 memories, but TCU's uniforms were awesome. However, this is such a cop-out by the BCS. TCU winning would have created at least some confusion about the final standings, but a #6 Boise is ranked too low for them to create too much havoc. Oh, well. C'est la BCS.
What in the world does that have to do with anything I said? And, no, I wouldn't have. Boise State was not making nearly as much noise complaining about playing TCU as TCU was about playing Boise State. The two teams played a great game. Fortunately, I'm not fixated on non-AQC and AQC labels. I can appreciate two great teams playing each other. I don't disrespect them by saying that a win over an undefeated team doesn't prove anything. Kudos to Boise for defeating a 12-0 TCU team. Boise has placed itself in a great position to continue getting into the BCS. Their fans represented big time. Their solid effort will land them in a position to get into the national title game next year if they run the table again.
Why 10? Where do you place them at the end of this season? If they're only losing three seniors, you should place them near where they end this year.
See my response to sam. No one is suggesting that, and trying to use such a silly, over the top example to distract from the problem is lame.
ehhh...the regular season games they get on ESPN late night thursday games, are pretty boring. mainly because they're conference sucks, not their fault, and most of em were blowouts. i think the most exciting game this bowl year was idaho/BGSU.
Most boring bowl game so far by a good margin; I'm not impressed with either one of them. I was wrong, neither TCU or Boise State could stay with Texas or Alabama in my opinion. That was brutal to watch. I couldn't stop switching channels. I kept thinking are these the only plays you've got?! Might want to get a bit more creative.
Yeah, I was thinking about 2007 OU, not 2006. My bad. Regardless, it's funny how Boise is discounted. More proof that this matchup was a lose-lose. Great game, good win for Boise St
The NCAA tournament is kind of a sham as far as choosing the best team in the country. Was North Carolina State the best team in the country in 1983? I don't think so.
Hard to believe there are college football fans who actually LIKE the B(C)S system thats in place. I mean, who would not want the best 8, 12, or 16 teams to play for 3 weeks in a row or so to make a real determination on the bloody field?
But then how do you determine what the best system is? What makes a playoff the best way to crown the best team in the country? Does it succeed in crowning the best team more often than any other system? I'd be fine with a playoff system. I just don't have any ill conceived notion that it's the best way to determine the best team in the country.
