Bingo. The same could be said for nearly all types of profitable businesses. The fact that it is crap, is irrelevant (lots of things are crap to many different types of folks, that are loved by another group). For my tastes, though, it is just more of the same. (Sambo, Mammy, etc...)
I'm not a fan of the show but when you think about it aren't all sit-coms stereotypical? They primarily consist of white people doing the things that white people do. I consider it unfair for people to criticize a show that appeals to a certain group of people when non-whites have been forced to digest corny shows for years. People like to watch what they can relate to, Tyler Perry's audiences love his material.
i'd bet you would be wrong, although interestingly i remember seinfeld running up against "martin" same time slot in its hey day and most black people probably watched "martin" especially since his following was pretty much established before seinfeld really took off. I agree with some of the nature of your post although tbs i'm sure is run by whites so if people really wanted to take issue with it they could. I don't get why some people are so offended by the concept of "i can make fun of my family but you can't" i'm sure if some blacks got on a show doing negative stereotypes about hispanics it would be an issue. secondly, I've never seen the show but if the show is about a functional family with a hard working black man patrioch, I don't know how negative it could be.
