Her face is so generic. It's a walking ad for plastic surgery. Her personality is also bland. We hear so much about her, but know nothing about her. I have never seen anyone become so famous without putting themselves out there. No no, her parents ARE someone. Someone being the country club of the country club...of the country club.
Lets not be to harsh on her for her writing. The lyrics you guys are pickin at, she wrote when she was 16-17. You listen to some of her less main stream songs and you get to appreciate her talent a little more.
Well if anybody actually makes anything close to the arguments you are mocking, you will win hands down. This started when I disagreed with ChrisBosh about Kanye making Swift famous. At the time I thought it was him just joking or something. I didn't realize it would eventually turn to this. Anyways, I decided to go to the great equalizer to settle this once and for all...WIKIPEDIA. Kanye's last album sold about 1.5 million in the US. Swifts last album sold about 4.5 million in the US. Argument OVER. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fearless_(Taylor_Swift_album)#Chart_positions http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/808s_&_Heartbreak#Sales_and_certifications
Are you trying to say that someone can only participate in an argument if they have a favorable opinion of the subject matter? Fail.
If you are trying to sell a lot of albums cares if you have meaning full lyrics. Have a catchy hook and a decent melody and boom you sell a lot of records. I think on her wiki it says she wasn't the youngest song writer signed by sony.
I don't fault her either, she writes her songs like any teenage girl should, and that's great. What she writes is what she really feels, sure some lines/songs may sound cheesy, but she's a teenage girl who wrote it! At that age everything is about rainbows and unicorns and boys with cars and bff's and.... She's better than a lot of current pop stars out there I'd say, where they sing songs about teenage life written by others who are in their 30s. So props to her.
She only sold more albums than any recording artist in the past 2 years and was the youngest talent to be on top of the Billboard Charts with multiple songs in its history. Other than that, I never knew who she was. BTW, who is this Kanye West character? If anything, she made him, not the opposite way around.
No im just saying your arrogance is quite annoying and getting old. You think you are gods gift to this site. That is all
Yep I knew, a friend of mine introduce me to her. I can name more of songs of Taylor than songs of Kanye. She is a role model for little girls, seems very sweet.
I hate to admit this but I do actually like her music...except I liked it when she was going by the name "Avril Lavigne" and pretended she was from Canada and that she was a "skater punk girl" with long straight hair.
Is it wrong that I saw 'Taylor Swift' and 'poll' in the thread title and immediately thought of 'Taylor Swift' and a 'pole', some lithe sinewy dancing, and one of those patented Traci Lords looks she has learned how to do... Never mind, I answered it myself. Yes. Yes, it is wrong.
I figured it wouldn't be long after I posted that, that someone would post what you posted. I'll let someone like Landlord or Brightside explain to you as I have a feeling that my explanation will leave you still outraged.
I think a case could be made for Swift and Lavigne sharing a similar sound. But, I don't have a deep knowledge(respect) of either artist's work. I just know I really want to make babies with Swift...Lavigne, not so much.
I don't know if you could call it "outrage". I just said it was stupid. Maybe an explanation would leave me not thinking that as much. I don't know...if you're gonna say pop music all sounds the same because of chord structure, then fine. But then it has nothing to do with those 2 specifically. Their voices are different, styles are very different, instrumentation is different (aside from the radio version of one or 2 of Taylor Swift's songs that have been pop-ized).. lyrically, I get some similarity, though not enough to say they're the same. Not that I will claim to know lyrics off the top of my head--just the general feel that I can remember from any of these songs.
You are overcomplicating it. Basically, I was implying that Swift is the next big thing in pop music/top 40 just like Lavigne was several years ago. We all have seen what Lavigne is doing these days - much of nothing which is what Swift will be doing several years from now. That's the formula for bubblegum music - not much substenance and the flavor lasts for so long before it goes away (see also Backstreet Boys, NKOTB, and even before that Leif Garrett).
