Thank You! She's 20 years old (I believe), but her "lyrics" that she writes are like a 10 year-old writing poetry. There are, I would venture to say, millions of 20 year-olds out there writing far better music than this. Just check out any of these scenes: Alt-Rock, Punk, Emo, Hard-Rock, Nu-Metal, or any combination in between. I'm just saying. Her lyrics, either don't make sense, or are crappy. Yes, she can (kind of) play the guitar. Once again, her guitar playing is relatively simple compared to other 20 year olds out there in the music scene. I think what happened is that, either her parents knew someone, OR, because most people consider her easy on the eyes (personally, I think she looks kind of like a barbie doll...which just weirds me out), she became famous.
I can't tell you a single song by her, but I know who she is. I know she plays the guitar and I've heard she writes her own songs, so at least in that regard, she gets the benefit of the doubt because she was still a kid when she started. She also seems very humble, so that probably has something to do with it. (Edit: by "it" and giving her the benefit of the doubt, I mean that I won't lump her in with all the other crap on the radio because I haven't listened to anything by her, and I doubt that I will because most everything on the radio sucks anyway. So maybe I won't give her the benefit of the doubt after all.) The only song I can tell you by Kanye is that Ray Charles mix. Personally I think he sucks at least as much as the rest of the over-produced hip-hop that comes out today. I didn't know much else until his ridiculous comments post-Katrina about W not caring about black people. And that Radiohead snubbed him and Hannah Montana. That made me happy.
I agree, her music seems to be written for 10-15 year old girls. She reminds me of a model just strumming a guitar and singing poorly. Her singing is just horrible, she has no voice what so ever.
Kanye helped her, no doubt. but people knew who taylor was before that, her name wasn't pulled from a hat to recieve that infamous award. she's garbage. I can't lie. but so are chewy crunchy cheesy gorditas. either way, I can't help myself.
that chick is too skinny and hiding behind an avalanche of makeup and i knew just as much about her before the incident as i did after... which was very little other than the fact she's another has-been in waiting bubble gum mtv product pop star
She'll be married to some fat Country Singer like Garth Brooks Jr sooner or later and then her career will go away.
Umm she's been big since her hit "Teardrops on my guitar" 2 years back. She has the best selling album of 2009 and is 2nd in grammy nominations behind Beyonce She's a preppy teenage girl writing songs about preppy teenage problems, and preppy teenage girls eat it up. She writes songs appropriately for her age, so I'll give her that. No metaphoric meaning, just songs about being fifteen and wanting some guy to belong to her.
If you don't pay any attention to country/pop music, I can see how you wouldn't know who she was. After Kanye (and all the awards it seems she's won this year), those same people have at least 'heard' of her and know who she is....but they probably still don't know the music.
Anybody that hadn't heard of her were living under a rock. This young lady is outselling every major artist right now and all the award shows consider a performance by her in the same class now with Beyonce, maybe even more so. The best thing about Taylor Swift is that she writes her own stuff and a lot of her songs have a quality of writing you just can't fake. Tim Mcgraw, her first song proved that. When you're Fifteen. White Horse. Those songs could stand with any of the sleek production songs out today. I think Taylor is a young Sheryl Crow.
I think you are selling her short. There was an article I read a while back on her that basically said that Taylor is more in touch with her feelings than some people EVER will be. I wouldn't want to put her in the same class with Dylan, but Dylan, it could be said wasn't writing about his own experiences to. I don't fault her because she is writing about love and dylan was writing about the margins of society. I look at it as the quality of writing and when she says "when you're fifteen somebody tells you they love you your gonna believe them, dylan himself couldn't have written better.
