Thumbs, not to argue with you, but why did Morey take Taylor as his 1st pick in the second round, then pass on Chase again with his next pick and then let Chase slip all the way to #44 before taking him? And Taylor had the highest no step vertical jump in the entire draft.
A 2nd round pick hasn't reached a deal with a team by early August means he'll get traded? Last I checked, Carl Landry is still with the team. Explain how Ron Artest is lesser talent than Bobby Jackson and Donte Greene. Explain how Luis Scola is lesser talent than Spanoulis. Explain how this fits in with your theory on how Morey takes lesser talent because there is more perceived talent to dollar ratiio. Assume that, as you said, Gortat is the greater talent, and Morey and everyone else in the league knows that. Gortat and Ariza have the same contract: the MLE. How is there a higher perceived talent to contract ratio for Ariza if Ariza is the lesser talent and makes the same money as Gortat? Your theory would make sense if Morey had refused to pay, say, $8 millin a year for Gortat, and instead went for Ariza with the $5.8 million MLE becasue he knew Gortat was the better talent, but didn't think Gortat was worth $8 million but thinks Ariza, while a lesser talent than Gortat, was worth more than the $5.8 million. But that wasn't the case. Morey didn't go over a figure that was reported to be $3.5 or $4 million for Gortat, and refused to pay him the full MLE, but paid the full MLE for Ariza. Whether you agree with Morey's assessment on the talent side or not, it is pretty clear that Morey thought Ariza, talent wise, was better than Gortat, and not that Morey thought Ariza was an inferior talent but targeted him because he could get Ariza for less money than would be needed for Gortat. Funny how the Lakers also made the same MLE-money offer to Ariza, which Ariza rejected, even though they "knew the condition of his feet." Funny how a few other teams, Cleveland, Toronto, and Portland included, also were reported to have made offers to Ariza (Toronto offering more than MLE, I believe) even though they "knew the condition of his feet" (or are you saying that only the Lakers and you "knew the condistion of his feet."?) I dont' know about anyone else, but this rant makes no sense to me.
I'm only seeing 14 on Rockets.com 1. Yao Ming 2. Tracy McGrady 3. Trevor Ariza 4. Brent Berry 5. Shane Battier 6. Aaron Brooks 7. Brian Cook 8. Joey Dorsey 9. Chuck Hayes 10. Kyle Lowry 11. Luis Scola 12. Jermaine Taylor 13. James White 14. Carl Landry Are they missing somebody?
Thats it. I knew everyone kept focusing on not having room for both, so I thought they might be missing someone. I think either a trade, or Brent Barry will be cut.
Don't you all worry we'll have Chase in the starting rotation by the beginning of the season with the trade that Morey is setting up for the next upcoming weeks.
Morey's got some slicing and dicing to do. When he's done, I hope Bud's on our team. Dude's form and quick release suggest his SL shooting % was no fluke, and he moves without the ball about as smartly as I've seen. So I hope he'll stick. I bet JT spends the season with the Vipers, trying to simplify his three-ball and free throw mechanics. Cook and Barry are looking increasingly cuttable. White might be redundant. Signing JT suggests Von's gone-- unless it was done simply to put a little heat on his agent?
Maybe Chase is in a trade package that would net an impact player for the Rockets. Regarding Taylor, It will all depend on his work ethic and how much he can develop from now until after the pre season games. He will either be in the roster contributing right away or spend sometime on the bench waiting for the team to relegate him to the Vipers.
Stop it right now... Please don't disrespect Larry Bird like that... Best case for Budinger would be Mike Miller IMO, who was just traded to Washington. I don't get why everyone is so high on Budinger after 1 summer league. Give the dude some time.
Signing Taylor means that no other teams were interested in him as a trading chip. I am sure after the SL other teams may be asking about Chase...Morey should do his job and see if he can improve the team...he has said repeatedly he would like a Superstar, maybe Chase could be a chip in that type of deal. Who knows. DD
Huh? We gave him 2 guaranteed years and grabbed options on 2 more. That means we wanted him. Flashback to 2002: Sign Yao Ming means that no other teams were interested in him as a trading chip. Or to 2009: No one signing Von means that no other team is interested in him as a player.
I think Steve Kerr was talking up Budinger at some point. Morey keeps talking about trading for an All Star talent. Not to land too heavily on the Phoenix thing, but you never know.
It s a mystery why Taylor was signed while Chase, who had a great summer was not. It might mean Chase is part of a package that Morey was saying as a minor or major move.
how bout we just do a 2 for 1 with cook nd taylor then sign budinger. jermain struggled in summer league bt remember he did pull his hamstring the day before summer league started in practice. but i think both taylor and especially budinger have potential
chase has really high value right now for a second round pick. his rights (unsigned) can be thrown into any trade without changing the salary structure of the deal. that makes him even more valuable as a trade chip. being a star in summer league play probably means morey has gotten some calls about him. since DM likes to keep his options open, chase remains unsigned.
Chase could hardly be appealing enough to other teams for the Rox to consider him a valuable trading asset however good performance he delivered in the SL. He's a 2nd rounder for a reason, which is that he has limited potential. Totally different situation from what we did with Greene last year imo. I think Morey is still bargaining with Chase's agent. Jermaine is just the appetizer.
