We just filed via turbotax for the web..and for the first time in a few years...we are actually getting around $500 back...

it helps that I had my job take out more this year so I wouldnt get stuck paying out the wazoo like I did last year.

I file April 15th. I set it up to owe money. Don't give the govt an interest free loan. :(

Which online tax service do people recommend? I have heard Turbotax is one of the best but any others that are better/cheaper?

    Thanks.

I haven't got any of my W-2's yet.

Last year I was able to write off almost as much income as I made from my band because I bought a crapload of gear, including a new kit. I got some money back.

This year, I'll probably have to pay because I didn't buy anything...except a house. ;)

Haven't filed yet, but it looks like we'll be paying for the 2nd year in a row.

My company posted our W-2's Jan 6 through online payroll. Had both state and federal in the mail by lunch time. Telefile wouldn't let me do it till the 13th.

So can you write off the interest portion of your mortgage payments for the year? Will they send me a statement? What if I bought it in August of 2004, can I still write it off or do I have to wait until I've owned for a full year?

Yes, yes and yes. They will send you a statement for the partial year. Best thing about owning a house.
