Just to preface this, I don't mean it as an attack. Nor am I defensive about it; I am trying to get to the crux of the matter. What you said following your quote up there was: I'm trying to get to the root of it. Paraphrasing. Drilling down. Most people equate education to intelligence. Also, most people will equate ethics, manners and morality with class. If these things are true, then your formula is saying that intelligence and class vary inversely with the numbers of tattoos a person has. Is this wrong? .... I had the exact same thought. You'd better be a vegan decathlete who grows their own organic food if you have the audacity to criticize how someone takes care of their 'temple'.
That's probably because the two are correlated. They aren't "equal" to each other, but I feel very safe in saying there is a positive correlation.
I devote approximately...11 hours of the day breaking down the dynamics of tattoo applications and the socio economic effects behind it. I even have some concepts tied in such as particle theory to explain why this phenomena has come about, and will present my dissertation upon completion of this private tattoo research.
This is more or less my point with Swoly's comments. I've worked in higher education for over 10 years and know a LOT of people with higher degrees - Masters, PhD and MDs - that have tattoos, sometimes full sleeves. I also know a lot of these educated folks who I would consider not so bright, so equating intelligence with education doesn't always work. However, it's all about perspective. I've had the luxury of actually getting to know people in academics. I don't put them on a pedestal. They're people who are susceptible to trends and fashion. Also, a Bachelors degree isn't much of a higher education these days. I respect the dedication it takes, but pretty much anyone with an average IQ can get one.
Swoly spreading more archaic falsehoods against the counter-religious society. Tattoos = stupid people? What an amazing equation. I don't have any tattoos because I don't think I've ever come across a tattoo I've ever thought that was awesome enough that I wouldn't mind having it on my person for the remainder of my life, but I wouldn't view another person differently for what they do with their body, it is their choice.
ive decided im going to the parlor to get the BEST tattoo! ya know.. the infamous spider web on your elbow? matt barnes, andruw jones, and miguel cabrera have it... i think thats soo cool... oh wait, nevermind. Thats prob. the dumbest thing ive ever seen in my life... tattoos are trashy... sorry i said it. Blast me if you want, but i dont care to see ur whores name laqueisha on your neck... she may have house your 8 children... but come on.
I saw a comment in the other thread how tattoos have always been around even way way way before this country was even created. And it'll always be around because its a way humans define themselves. Absolutely, agree on that. KNOWING that, my perspective is those are LEGITIMATE tribal and spiritual cultures. I do not think the movement behind the current tattoo trend is anything CLOSE to that. Especially in the US. Its about getting them because David Beckham and Angelina Jolie looks cool in them. Before that, tattoos wrongly or rightfully were attributed to "outlaw" types like thugs, prisoners and bikers. Then military people had them cuz they were considered EARNED. And the usual niche market rockers, hippies and extreme creative arts people in the tattoo magazines. (Not that I'd know, but) Perhaps even the porno people. It think for me it speaks more to lack of credibility in overall US culture more than the tattoos themselves. Its a prejudice. I think the same thing of flowers in women's hair - If you have flowers in your hair and you're a Pacific Islander it looks CONTRIVED and doesnt make you look sweet Americans watch Discovery Channel and see the innocent natives walking around with unique markings and carrying their babies in back packs and think "Ah how neat, WE need to do THAT!" . So if a Samaon person walks in with tattoos and flowers -- valid. White girl from Bismark, North Dakota -- hit and miss Males -- who cares.
FAIL. Rice grad here with tat. Wifey also a Rice grad with a tat. Virtually all my friends are college grads and I can think of 4-5 off hand that have tats. I'd say this, however, all of us have tats in less conspicuos places ...so people like you don't pass judgement. We are all educated enough to figure out that prejudice matters when applying for a job.
Dude..you are a genious! No, wait..you are like my dad who thinks (or used to think) that anyone with a tattoo must have been in prison or a gang. I graduated from college by the way...B.S. Science..deans list and have a good job but I got tattoos just cause I freaking feel like it. So far the ink has not affected my brain..yet.
Females with more than one or two small tattoos are a huge turnoff for me. Almost as much as cigarette smoking. For me, its just too permanent. I don't understand how or why people get literally addicted to it. But to each his own. Its your body, destroy it however you want to.
Not going to lie, I've seen some pretty hot Rockets logo tattoos around the toyota center on some male fans. Other than those, I've never found tattoos attractive. Visible tattoos on girls typically looks trashy. However, I have seen some cute small black Christian fish and crosses on a few girls wrists. I'll never get one though. That's something I can draw with a fine tip sharpie on days I want one.
I plan on tatting the Rockets logos on me eventually (small). Really. I mean, the Rockets are a big part of my life that I share with my family and that I have love for. I don't mind inking that on my body. It's all about what you like though. Some people buy Air Force Ones...I make sure my fam is good, save plenty of money and occasionally add to my tat collection. I'm happy with all of mine, mostly because I've designed them all, and they all have to do with time, my family, death and loved ones. I can be happy looking at them in old age...it's all a memory.
Try the scrotum. EDIT: Sorry, I must have misunderstood the question. BTW, LOL at SwoLy-D being so incredibly WRONG on yet another one of his broad generalizations. Gee, never seen that happen before....
