I might be in the minority on this but I don't think "starters" should just be your best players or even best lineup. For example if Gordon makes the starters to 8/10 but without them we have enough talent to make it 7/10 I would rather him come off the bench to boost the bench from around 5/10 to 7/10. Don't get hung up on the numbers but my point is I would rather have a more consistent and balanced onslaught than potent first unit and a huge drop off to second. Starting is literally a novelty in this league, its the closers that matter.
I'm just glad he is a rotation player. If we had Wall, Boogie, BMac and Gordon playing tonight, we would've probably beat them by 10.
No i think Eric is fine in the second unit. He prefers that even if he said he doesn’t care, he fits better in our bench unit. He won’t get enough touches to be “happy”. We got Harden, Wall and Wood who would be handling the ball. Eric and Wood gave some nice passes to each other in preseason. But I prefer continuity so that everyone knows their role, MDA used to switch often & that frustrated Eric. But yea I agree Tate will probably take PJs spot first. The faster Tate works on his 3s the sooner he will replace PJ as starter and finishing the games too.
Tate has a little bit of Ron Artest in him. His movements remind me of Chicago Bulls Ron. I liked what I saw. I agree with D-rock, we need a 4 unless Boogie and Christian can play on the floor at the same time. Jusuf and Enes were killing us on the boards.
Chill guys. Tate only played well because he was scared that Harden would throw a basketball at him if he screwed up. Unlikely to happen again
A. Tate came to Houston because of Will Weaver - relationship is huge B. He is not on a 2-way, he has a 3 year deal (3rd year team option, which gives Hou full bird rights So it can't really be the same as the House situation, phew!
It's amazing how undrafted guys and couch free agents who hustle and defend and can hit open shots look pretty good when they come to Houston for like the last 8 years. I wonder what the common factor is. Keith Jones?
Tate looked very good last night . house looked bad . We will see if Danuel can bounce back . I’ve seen house look very good . And he has a better proven track record as a shooter . that alone can be valuable. Tate will make rookie mistakes at some point and house will get hot . good to have both . After one game of course Tate’s ceiling looks high . frankly , Nwaba and Brown and Tate and Thomas all showed flashes . and due to all the circumstances working against us ... one could expect them to all look even better at some point . we don’t have too many 3 day breaks this year. But maybe we get lucky and Covid postpones another game for us (not our fault) and we can get some practices in with the whole team healthy. Our ceiling looks great after one game If you factor in upside from the guys that were out
Shouldn't Wood be our 4 and Cousins be our 5. Since both can shoot, spacing will not be a problem. Only issue is Woods being switched on some quicker wings.
