stunned 6 times in 6 minutes? thats a response that a college police department has when a kid doesn't show id? give me a f%$king break.
This is what I rail against every time these supposed 'non-lethal' weapons are brought up. Some poorly trained officer gets it into his head that using a taser is not dangerous and they use it as if they were conducting an experiment into operant conditioning. I don’t blame the police because it is a result of sales hype, but the taser should be viewed roughly the same as a billy club. If you wouldn’t hit the guy with your billy club 6 times then you shouldn’t be tasering him 6 times. (BTW, if anybody wants a taser, let me know. I can get good deals. Just don't use it to teach your dog not to crap on the carpet.)
I hope these guys get fired and if necessary, go to jail. But has anyone found out what the guy did to bring this on to begin with?
He wouldn't produce his ID. Now, normally, one would note that a person is not required to carry ID with him at all times. I can go to any number of libraries any time I want without having to produce ID. Even if a duly appointed officer of the law asks for my ID, I'm not required to show it to him in order to sit in a library. But I assume, in this case, this particular library has access that's restricted to students (I believe that was in one of the stories). However, it seems like perhaps the officers could ascertain if a certain individual was a student without resorting to requiring an ID card. To protect the crowd from the kid who apparently had the right to be there, just not the proper documentation? I know if I had been there, I would've been scared for my life knowing that particular student might not have had his ID card. Honestly, it seems like if the school requires students to show ID after 11pm, then that's what a person has to do. They were apparently right to want to kick him out. After that, I don't know the best way to handle it. It seems excessive to Taser someone that often in that short of a time period, but the part of the video I watched, I couldn't see what was going on. I could only hear, and it's not really possible for me to make a judgment based on that. It just seems bad, though, and because of that (and because it's UCLA and all), the officers will probably lose their jobs, or at the very least, be punished in some way.
That kid is an idiot. Don't be a dick to the police. If you think the police are being unreasonable, comply with them now and file a complaint later. Instead he got belligerent and got treated like a b****. I hope he enjoys Guantanamo.
Filing a complaint is a waste of time, though. They never do any good (and in some jurisdictions, if you go into the police station asking to file a complaint, they'll threaten to arrest you or otherwise berate you). A couple of years ago, one of the Dallas-area TV stations sent a guy undercover to go into various police stations and ask for the form to make a complaint. Usually, the officers would not give the man a form. The officers were almost never polite, and in one infamous case, the officer started going for his sidearm at the request and threatened the person who was asking for the form with arrest and imprisonment if he went through with filing whatever complaint he wanted to file. So, really, I would suggest just forgetting the whole thing. But maybe I'm jaded living in a city where people were convicted and sent to prison for possession of pool chalk and where people are convicted of things that aren't against the law all the time (and if you try to fight the charge, they plead you guilty without your knowledge), where prosecutors will invent phony witnesses in order to convict people and where the outgoing district attorney thinks that a 5%-10% false conviction rate isn't that bad.
Damn we got some boot stompers here. The purpose of the taser is for cops to protect themselves without using lethal means, not as a torture devise because the cops want a guy to walk rather than having to carry him. WAY EXCESSIVE, they should be fired!!
If someone refuses to stand up.. you take your lazy cop-ass and drag/carry him out.. you don't repeatedly taze someone unless they are an imminent physical threat to you or those around you. That was completely uncalled for, especially since the guy just refused to show an ID. Last time I checked, wasn't UCLA a public university? Even if he wasn't a student, doesn't he still have the ability to use the library? What kind of damn law is it when you can be practically shocked within an inch of your life for refusing to show ID in AMERICA? The officers who took part in the tazing will be fired. Bank on it.
Some of these comments you guys are making are downright scary.. "learn to comply"... "do what they tell you"... etc come on guys.. this is america.. just because a cop says jump doesn't mean you have to say "how high?"
If these guys end up getting fired, I'm going to request my city hire them as code enforcement officers. You better bet that family down the street is going to keep the weeds out of their flower beds when we get these guys and their Tasers going on 'em.
OK, from what I see in the video it looks like the guy is handcuffed. I can understand them tasing him the first time but once he is handcuffed and there are multiple officers there that should be the end or it.
Wow. I thought it was going to be a funny video or something. That **** was serious. I think they were both wrong. Dude didn't want to show his ID. He was probably just being a punk or some ****. Maybe he had an exam soon, and he didn't want to leave the library. As soon as I read the article, and saw that he had an arab sounding name, I just smiled and giggled, because I knew this story was going to get real good. Who uses the library except the homeless people? They use it to check their e-mail and shower.
Why were they asking him for his ID in the first place? I'm not defending these cops, there's no way acted reasonably, but there's got to be something else to this story.
I only saw one time that he was tasered. He was asked to produce and ID. He refused. He was asked to leave in accordiance with policy. He refused. He went limp and practiced an act of civil disobediance. He was cursing the cops and making a sense. He refused to get up. He was not cooperating with the police. The tried to make him leave but he continued to resist. He got Tasered. I'm sorry - but he deserved it. You don't act like a fool in front of the police. You cooperate. Doesn't mean you have to do what they say if it will threaten or endanger your own life - but if they say show ID or leave - then you better follow suit.
I wonder if Khalid Shaik Mohammed screamed in a similar fashion (like a little girl) when he was getting 'interrogated'. I would have paid to see that. This little brat got his. How hard is it to produce your ID? If you don't have it, go get it. Don't go looking for a fight and then take a swing at the cops while cussing at them. Give me a break.
Are you kidding me? The dude got tasered at least six times, no way it was only once. What they did to him is rediculous. there were a few cops and one kid. They couldnt just grab him bring him outside? What was the point of Tasering him over and over again. These cops should be fired and go to jail
