Tari should have already been traded and FVV needs to be gone at some point ...not given more years.

    Amen, obviously, gets extended.

    C'mon.

I don't mind giving Tari 20M per. But given his injury risk, I would not guarantee 4 years. Maybe 2 years guaranteed and 2 years team option.

    https://www.nytimes.com/athletic/7358390/2026/06/18/nba-free-agency-tari-eason-lu-dort/

    1. Tari Eason, Houston (R): $24,110,720

Eason and the Rockets were close to an extension for roughly this dollar amount a year ago but couldn’t dot all the I’s by the deadline for rookie contact extensions. The most important stat for Eason is the games played column — he suited up for 60, plus all six playoff games, his most since he played 82 as a rookie. Eason also showed more bona fides as a 3-and-D guy by shooting 35.8 percent from distance on respectable volume. The “D” part of the equation for him is much more established, of course, as Eason is a chaos agent with plus-size for a wing and ballhawking instincts.

All of that should leave him with a market right in the neighborhood of three years and $75 million. The question is more about how many contractual bells and whistles will be attached to guard against physical issues. Houston will surely tender him his $8 million qualifying offer, and one presumes the Rockets would match reasonable offer sheets given their mostly manageable cap sheet.

    11. Josh Okogie, Houston: $7,629,699

A valuable player whom nobody seems to regard as being all that valuable, Okogie worked on a minimum deal this season, starting two playoff games. I question whether his best fit is on a Houston roster that already overindexes on high-energy, iffy-shooting guys, but many teams could use his skill set as an athletic energizer, and he might only cost another minimum deal.

Has the Athletic ever gotten anything right. They are just another clickbait peddler. If Stone gives Tari 25M guaranteed, he should be fired immediately. Of course, he gave FVV 25m guaranteed, so he should have already been fired.

$20 mil remains the fair number for both sides.

idk... i feel like if we match and sign him to a fair number, then he's not going to be happy...

Unless he's overpaid and locked into a starter role, he's gonna feel like he's being taken advantage of and give off either a negative or dgaf vibe...

Some people u just cant please and u need to let them go...

I'm sure having Momster in his ear doesnt help matters...

I think 4/80 with at least one team option, two if you can get it. Only the Rockets and Tari’s crew know the injury risk.

I'd let him go if we're not able to get anything for him. I'd let him go for a number of reasons, the injury history, lack of consistent reliable offense, but most of all the character he displayed when he was "not happy" and it hurt the team. We paid you for those games not a penny less of what we agreed upon for those games, and you gave less than what we agreed upon.

He's not even a star or even reliable enough to have leverage to pull that kind of stunt. Him and Momster can take their talents elsewhere if it were me making the decision.

Why wouldn’t he be happy? We would be matching the best offer he could get on the open market. Are you saying he will only be happy if we pay him something well over his market value?

Unfortunately we cannot let him go for nothing in my opinion. If he gets high offers then someone will value him down the line or will gladly take him in a trade for a star.

So we have to resign him.

It’s a game agents play. They get pissed because they have to spend a lot of extra time negotiating with a team that doesn’t really know the player. It’s more work for them and they relay it to the player as disrespectful that their current team won’t just give them what they think the player is worth. Nevermind that they simultaneously use Restricted free agency as leverage against the player’s current team. No player would give it a second thought without their agent spinning it as disrespect.

Tari is a $30 million a year player who only plays at most 2/3 of a season, so $20 million is more than fair.

A GM and FO can look at a player and think that they can fix his shot or get him to play better D, but they do not think that this is a player that we keep uninjured since that is something that can not be taught.

The Rockets know something we do not. The Rockets know what the doctors have said about his surgically repaired leg. This is very important. If the doctors have concerns about future problems with the leg, then it’s easy to understand why the Rockets may be hesitant to throw big long term money at Tari. Also, if Tari becomes becomes a free agent, then other teams will also get information about the leg.

If the doctors are throwing up red flags about Tari’s ability to stay on the court, then the Rockets are probably smart to let Tari test free agency.

Yes, thats exactly what I'm saying.
I believe it ties into an inflated self worth... and with Momster in his ear, i fully understand it...

If he doesnt get what he feels he deserves... then it will be bc he wasnt a full time starter, he couldn't excel in Ime's lackluster offense or something along those lines...

and then of course, "he could have gotten more, but teams didnt want to wrap up the cap hold and miss out on other FAs when they knew the Rox were going to match anyway..."

Denial is more than just a river in Egypt...

idk the dude... but getting a 100M offer, turning it down - and then acting all mopey to begin the year is a red flag in my book...

I'm not too worried about Tari's deal he'll likely be tradeable even if it's slightly higher than what we want. Worst case he could be moved for a couple expiring salary dump contracts.

I'm actually more concerned with Amen's deal because he'll be paid a "high potential" premium and if he doesn't continue to grow we're stuck with a near max deal that is really hard to move. Teams typically don't have $40MM+ in expiring player salary they wanna just dump.

Yes we can….Tari is a zero value player. He is Tate with a loud mom. Low iq and nothing worth mire than 8 million a year. Oh, and he’s also injury prone. What a beautiful March he had where he made 2 three pointers ALL MONTH and started for us. Yep, Stoner will definitely waste 20 million on this scrub like DFS.

IMO, Tari and his mom are damaged goods. If not on a clearance contract, we need to avoid.

A sign and trade for a backcourt player would be idea end of him as a Rocket. Bringing some team value back to the organization.

Thank you, Tari for your service. You have been enjoy for parts of your tenure here.
