Considering how well Reed has played, there is nothing Reed can do to be worth starting to several Reed-doubters.
Poor analogy. It's not the same. Another thing that really puzzles me is why so many people insist Reed should be a starter right now. There are several reasons to not start him, one of which is coming off the bench gives him more opportunity to be featured in the offense so he can shoot and create instead of being stuck with both KD and Alpi on the court at the same time. He also has better chemistry with Adams and Clint than anyone else on the team. He actually makes Clint worth a dime on offense (sometimes) and nobody else uses the high PnR with Adams as often as Reed. The utter captivation some have with Reed is fine, but he's getting plenty of usage in a way that is also best for winning games and setting up a playoff run. It really is the best of both worlds.
It is different. You are more a Reed doubter than a Reed lover such that it is a poor analogy to you. Reed is the 4th best player on the team by most modern objective analytics. He has better chemistry with the backups because he plays with the backups, and the starters play with each other more than with Reed. Reed's current minutes are enough for him to develop, but not optimal for developing chemistry with the starters. If winning playoff games is considered necessary, it is perfectly logical to want the best players to have chemistry by the playoffs and play the most minutes in the playoffs. If prioritizing games in the next 2 weeks is a priority, sure, Reed as a backup is likely best. 2 weeks from now, nothing will change. I could be wrong. I just don't see how Reed can develop chemistry quickly with the starters without starting and what Reed can do as a backup as him playing well with the backups is being used against him.
Tari has basically told me to STFU and eat my crow like a good little b**** this season. Injuries still a concern but he’s lights out this year
OG’s first contract after his rookie deal was a 4 year 72 million contract, and it was considered “below market price” for him at the time. His second extension the one you’re referring to was believed by some to be a “head scratching move” but basically the explanation was that after the trades and how much the Knicks gave up, they couldn’t afford to lose him, despite the injury history. So they had to overpay to keep him.
Brandon Ingram, Michael Porter JR, Lauri Markkanen all have their injury history’s and make comparable money to OG. Doesn’t seem crazy to me, I could see a few teams preferring him depending on team construction. One of the benefits from having a good team with a deep roster is being able to sustain through injuries. Last 3 champs have had injury prone players: Chet/MPJ/Porzingis My current guess (depending on health rest of way) is that some team out there will value Tari around Jaden McDaniels 5/136.
I really want to see our Core 5 play together A LOT. Reed Amen Tari Jabari Alpi Those are the foundation of our team for the next decade. Yes, Mir. Durant, you can sit and watch.
Yea, but Brandon Ingram was already averaging 23.8 points per game before he got his first extension (and was Most Improved player and an all star) Michael Porter Jr contract was after he averaged 19 per game and 7.3 rebounds on elite shooting (45% on like 7.1 threes per game) and he was one of their “big 3” players they wanted to build around along with Jokic and Murray. And even with that so many people called it a stupid contract due to the injury risk and the justification was that Denver can’t really get top free agents and they had to overpay to keep him based on his star potential as a 6’10” elite shooter. Laurie Markkanen first extension (after averaging double figures in all 4 years and averaging 40% three pointers as a 6’11” forward was only 67.5 milllion over 4 years. It wasn’t until his third contract when he got the big money and that’s after he had broken out as a 25 point per game go to player. None of those examples are really comparable to the current situation we have with Tari. All these other guys were featured heavily on their teams or even the go to player. Tari literally just got inserted into the starting lineup a few days ago. And I like Tari and was very bummed out when he didn’t sign the extension. I also thought it was dumb for him to turn it down. He’s already went down once this year already and while he’s been playing good, if he goes down again it’s really hard to imagine some team tying up their cap space for 3 days to give him a significant near max extension while waiting to see if the Rockets will decide to match (and in the process lose out on other unrestricted free agents).
I love Tari Eason as a player, but he’s an elite role player rather than a young Kawhi Leonard. You can’t run your offense through him. Regardless of his injury history, I doubt another team would be willing to pay him the rookie max with the skill set he’s shown in the NBA. If he didn’t have his injury history, I could see him getting an offer in line with what the Rockets gave Jabari Smith Jr. With it, I think he’s looking at somewhere between 15-20 million per season.
Was comparing the OG contract to them not Tari. It’s my theory that teams use more information and logic than a straight statistical breakdown when determining a player’s value. Kuminga got 24/ per on a shorter deal. McDaniels 26 per That’s my guess where Tari will end up.
Understood, Plow. I just don’t see many great trade options for players that are better than Eason. The reason is most of them will make significantly more money than Tari does on the last year of his rookie contract, so you are going to have to include more players to match salaries. Plus, do you want guys like Trae Young, Darius Garland or LaMelo Ball on their contracts beyond this season? Other than Giannis, one interesting name would be Andrew Nembhard in Indiana. He’s making 18, 19 and 20 million over the next three years and is a really good defender at the point guard position.
Disagree. I love Reed but he is just more effective playing with Adams. He doesnt need to start because all the shots will be eaten up by Durant and Sengun either way. He gets more opportunity to be the PG when he is playing backup and he gets more shots when he is coupled with Adams. The lineup with Tari is working, you dont change what's working just to develop one player. Reed will get there, the priority now is winning, Reed's development will naturally flow, it doesnt need to be forced.
If Tari can stay healthy the rest of the season and continues to play at a high level, the Rockets should reward him.
Again, you ride a hot streak, teams are not pressuring that lineup, for some reason, so let's keep it up and bring Reed off the bench as a scorer facilitator game changer dude. DD
