Cheap Rockets were minutes away from signing a third max contract and then matching 15 mil on Parsons
Were they ever going to match Parsons? Could have signed Bosh to max, still brought in Ariza (would be a better fit with Howard, Harden and Bosh), and then had enough flexibility to play with, being far enough under hard cap.
They couldn't have brought in Ariza. The Bosh signing would've taken up all their cap room. They also wouldn't have gotten the MLE or the BAE. It would've been Bosh + minimum players or Bosh + re-signing Parsons + minimum players.
It could have worked, assuming a SnT for Bosh. Trade Lin Change Asik/NOP trade into a 3 team deal with Miami Use Lin TPE and a pick to SnT for Ariza. We'd still have our MLE and BAE. Regardless, it's a pointless discussion. Parsons would have been a much better fit with Bosh on the roster than Ariza.
MLE: Nick Johnson on Chandler Parsons contract Shawn Marion BAE: Bring Euro over or not used in hope someone shakes free just before deadline of playoff eligibility Minimum: Aaron Brooks if decision is made for Nick Johnson to start in Dleague. Francisco Garcia after Gee and Hopson are traded or released
I'm on my phone and can't really fact check at the moment, but I think he only shot 31% from 3 last year and Jones shot like 30%. Despite the youtube video floating around of him going crazy against the Pacers in the playoffs, he shot horribly in the postseason. Very streaky.
Yes, that's true. But he can shoot. He's got the form and the mechanics. And he's got his college career numbers that show he can shoot it. You have to consider the circumstances guys are playing under. Jones was playing next to Dwight with wide open 3-balls staring him in the face. Scott was playing sporadically, mostly with the scrub backups and cleaning up in blowouts. Those numbers have to be discounted. When Scott got good minutes he shot the 3-ball very well. No comparison in the two players as far as shooting goes.
Last year was the 1st time Scott got significant minutes, and it's also the first time he took a significant amount of 3s. He finished the year shooting much better than he started. I think he was around 37% from 3 for the last 3-4 months.
Very very interesting. Still think Lance should be Morey's primary target right now. Sign him for big money, but for only 2 years. Another out of the box thought is Roddy Beaubois. This kid was once considered the next Rondo, but with a 3 point shot. What the heck happened to him?? Last I heard the Celts were working him out at the beginning of the year.
You mean Lance (I just signed a shinny new contract with Charlotte) Stephenson? Sign Shawn Marion and I will be happy with that. Beverly / Canaan / Johnson Harden / Daniels / Johnson Ariza / Shawn Marion / Adrien / Covington TJones / DMo / Dwight / Dorsey / Capela
Could not have signed Bosh and then Ariza. Wouldn't have had cap space or exceptions left. Yes they'd have matched Parsons.
I actually think the list has solid role players on it. Now will Morey try to get any as opposed to ex Rockets that can be had for the minimum is the question.
We could have brought in Ariza via SnT (the method we used to get him here anyway) - and used the Lin TPE to make it happen?
I doubt it! Parsons would have been 4th option on offense - 12ppg? Ariza is a better shooter, and far superior defender, so being 4th option is no biggie, since he is making plays defensively as well. Didn't happen. Good news is that Ariza fits a LOT better with a softer 4 than Parsons does.... Having 2 pathetic forward defenders was bad, we're down to just 1 now, and Ariza fits a lot better next to [pipe dreams] someone like Love.
