FWIW, via twitter: STEIN_LINE_HQ Marc Stein Cavs announce that ankle/midfoot injury suffered by Varejao -- their most coveted trade piece -- in practice Thursday "likely" season-ending
I don't see what distinguishes him from this guy: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mouhamed_Sene Hell, Sene put up moderately OK numbers when he was in the D-League.
He might not be right now, but he might be in the future, and with this team going nowhere, now is EXACTLY the time to take these types of risks. DD
Dallas has four centers, maybe they would move one to get the SF they need to replace Caron Butler. How about Battier and Jeffries for Ian Mahinmi and Butler (expiring contract). Mahinmi had a great game the other night: http://espn.go.com/nba/players/profile?playerId=2774 News: With Tyson Chandler (illness) out Saturday at Memphis, Mahinmi was the first center off the bench and led Dallas with a career-high 17 points, hitting all six of his shots. Spin: Given something like starter's minutes, Mahinmi would almost definitely record something like 12-14 points, 8-10 rebounds, and two blocks per game. That probably won't happen. But the point remains: if and when Mahinmi appears set for some kind of extended trial, don't hesitate to pick him up.
i've been thinking a variation of the above scenario could bring back a pick as well, although instead of mahinmi, I think we'd have to take haywood. I think it could fill a need and free up time at the three for twill. it will also shave salary by a bit.
Haywood has a Nasty contract and he is over 30. We would be doing them a favor by taking the contract off there hands.
Yeah Mahinmi and Ajinca are being showcased by Dallas. D-Morey was looking at Courtney Sims from D-League as well. We need a guy that can slow down the oppositions biest big man and also prevent penetration. I dont think Sean Williams is the defensive presence we need at the 5. He does get a lot of blocks but most of them come from the weak side.
his contract is reasonable for a starting big, although the last two years will be tough to swallow. i agree it is doing them a favor. i would add brad miller to the trade to free up 1.5 mill and have them throw in a lottery protected first. (we would collect this year). I think he can be a solid player at the position providing height and shot blocking and average around 9/9. They get to cut salary, replace their backup center and add a solid three along with a specialist defensive player. We get a legitmate center (albeit a mediocre one), an additional draft pick, and free up time for Twill and Clee. I don't love the deal, but would consider it. I would want sikma's input on if he felt he could be a viable presence defensively. if the word was yes, i'd be interested.
Here's hoping there's a substantial salary cap adjustment in the new CBA. And it allows the Rockets to bring Kendrick Perkins back to Texas.
Whatever they do, they shouldnt jeopordize a shot at cp3,williams,or howard in 2012. They need a balance of good players, expiring contracts, and developing player and make a run at howard. So if that means trading yao contract for kaman, cool. If that means trading jeffries and and shane for gortat and childress, cool too.
I think this is always on Morey's mind. We're low on picks right now, but he'll get us some more when he gets a chance. He traded that one for T-Will because he saw a special deal.
If we can't develop Jordan Hill in a year, Thabeet would take 4-5. I don't know if we have the coaches for a guy that raw... Someone put Hakeem on the Rockets payroll...
LOL.. Okay ... I like this trade, I've alway's liked Mahinmi's combination of size and athleticism... Also, I think we could get Dallas to include their 2011 1st round pick and possibly 2nd rounder as well, given how desperate they are for a wing player to replace Butler..
If Thabeet had been with the Rockets the whole time, he would be starting by now getting highlight plays every other night. Memphis does not compare to Houston when it comes to big man coaching. As a matter of fact, get him here by the deadline. That way he could have a full offseason with Hakeem.
Portland Trail Blazers center Marcus Camby will undergo arthroscopic surgery later this week to repair a partial medial meniscus tear in his left knee, it was announced today by General Manager Rich Cho. "The MRI taken earlier today did not show anything significant," said Cho. "However, a more thorough review tonight from our team physician did reveal a partial tear." The exact date for Camby's arthroscopy has yet to be determined. Read more: http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/71219/20110119/camby_to_undergo_knee_surgery/#ixzz1BTdcPZEo
