WOW. Amazed that a guy ,who plays QB, all is life doesn't know the divisions in football. Moore should have asked Tannehill, what his chances are against the Texans.
He's not paid to sit and watch ESPN all day and calculate fantasy football stats. He's paid to throw the football. That's all that matters.
I get your point, but I do think it is weird that a professional sports player doesn't know the setup of his league. How many football players do you think don't know what division other teams are in?
Football players aren't fans. They spend too much time being football players to care about that kind of stuff.
Too much time being football players to understand what teams they need to worry about? The fact that his fellow player mocked him makes me think you guys are underrating how uncommon this kind of disconnect is.
this would be such a non story if people realized he had 3.5+ GPA while doing pre-med at TAMU. The guy is pretty smart.
Really? Knowing the structure of your employer is the name thing as monitoring minute stats for a make believe league? You can downplay it but you sound ridiculous doing it to this degree. You don't think it's important he understands where the Dolphins rank in the standings, how many games back they are, if they are in playoff contention? It's something an employee should know about his job.
Coaches even stress players to think about the season game to game. There's a reason for that. The reason is so players don't over think or slack off based on opponents. If it were up to coaches they'd make sure thier players didn't watch any MNF SNF games and just tape during practice
What does fantasy football have to do with football divisions? Matt Moore's reaction shows you that it's pretty uncommon. Embarrassing.
True story - I don't know the divisions either. I don't think I know the NBA ones anymore either. I used to before Stern started chopping everything up a few years back.
You'd have to think there'd be at least a small number of guys who really don't like football, but know they can make millions of dollars being in the league. It's no different than any number of people who don't really love what they're doing, but do it well and get paid handsomely for it. These guys have just recognized the talents they were given, if used properly, can set them up for life. They do their job and they go about their lives outside of the job, just like the rest of us. Who knows. This is a funny anecdote though, but speaks nothing to his intelligence. I don't think you can use a league that puts Dallas in the NFC East as a barometer of one's knowledge of geography.
I make fun of Aggie every chance I get, but it really is a non story. As long as he can throw a football accurately and read defenses, that is all that matters.
Did you hear Curtis Martin's HOF acceptance speech? He did not want to play football... http://deadspin.com/5932253/curtis-martins-hall-of-fame-speech-was-actually-pretty-touching
He needs to know: Who is in his division The tendencies of the defense he is playing next week The playbook NFL teams pay other guys that will do the rest of the thinking for him. Would I expect him to know that stuff? Yes. Am I surprised that some players don't? No. I'm sure he knows the teams in his division.
