True true but how many times can he do that and get lucky?
Hmm yes good players from the 2nd round are hard to come by but they will never translate to Mjordan Kobe and lebron.

Hmm john wall reminds me of Mj anyone seen his clip on ytube yet?

Tanking? Never, I'm totally against it UNLESS we are talking 10-20 games or so at the end of the season and you know FOR SURE that you are not making the playoffs.

Put me in the camp of those who believe "You play to win the game." Not to get better draft positioning.

Tank for what? if the rockets had the worse season in the league this year, they are not guaranteed the top spot. Why not play you butt off and find out what you have when the stars do get here.

I was leaning toward tanking when McGrady's status was more up in the air. If he can come back before the end of the year, I think we can do quite well.

You basically have to measure the chance of landing a true franchise-level player (or at least a semi-franchise player) in the draft vs. FA/Trading for one.

Since the max-deal FA for the Rockets in the 2010 offseason seems to be unlikely, i'm thinking head to the draft. The 4th or 5th pick obviously won't net John Wall. Maybe the 4th or 5th pick plus attractive low-priced parts (which the Rockets have in droves) might.

this just shows he can drive and dunk, thats not what basketball is, these highlights remind me of vince carter, and carter wasn't a very good shooter or passer as a rookie, but he eventually got better.. bottom line is, i dont like this guys game based on these highlights, i would like to see how he shoots, how he passes, his basketball i.q. , any guy can dunk, but not any guy can play basketball, ask kwame brown, hasheem thabeet, joe alexander, adam morrison to name a few.. heck, i would prefer troy murphy over this guy any day .. good potential, but needs more development, a lot more

I was all for tanking, over just being an 8th/9th seed and getting knocked out in 1st round.

BUT now, this team looks like more than a fiesty bunch and they look like with a healthy tmac (crosses fingers) we could compete with anyone.

Anyone who thinks trading Battier and Scola for "young talent" just doesn't understand their importance to the team. Those two have been instrumental in any success the Rockets have had the past few years. Yes, a lot of their value is in intangibles. They're not the kind of players you can just go out and easily replace, and dropping them for "young talent" that may or may not pan out is foolish. A team doesn't have to have players all roughly the same age to win a championship. Scola and Battier still have several good years in them and could be key parts to a championship team once the younger players come into their own. Also, one of the earlier posts made the good point that there's more than one way to skin a cat. If you look at championship teams, they don't all fit one pattern. Some did acquire their superstars through free agency and trades. (Look at Boston a couple of years ago.) Some got it done through the draft. There's no one formula that works. The whole idea of rebuilding versus retooling is kind of silly. You keep the parts that work. You dump the parts that don't. You do what it takes to get it done.

Yep, now has started, but were some threads about tanking in the offseason, so Im talking about those people.

I dont like tanking, because karma always get you, because if you have the worst record, that doesnt secure you, the top pick, some teams with the worst record have got, the 3 or 4 pick, or when the rockets got Yao Ming, they were 5th teams with a worse record, and houston still got the no. 1 pick, so the lottery sometimes is luck.

and for only getting superstars in the draft and see the lakers, they havent been for top 10 draft picks, kobe is number 13, and they didnt pick him it was a trade, shaq was a trade, gasol was a trade, the celtics trade for KG and ray allen, paul pierce got drafted in 10th pick.

I don't support threads like these because they are premature. If we lose 3 games in a row, people will bump this and act like they're right, which then is still considered premature.

I voted no but mostly that's because of Adelman. Without him, I'm sure I'd vote yes to legalize abortions.
