Get Ready Bandwagoners. The Walt and Mobley threads just make it even more obvious....we must be prepared to Tank again this year. Of course Rudy never directly talks about "tanking" and from what we know Rudy he never will. However, I listened to 950AM KPRC a few times and it sounds to me that Rudy is talking more and more about "progress", "development" etc. and less and less about "winning". In fact, what he is saying is essentially "we would love to win, but it is OK to lose as long as we make some progress and develop chemistry". Remember Rudy T is a very diplomatic guy. He used to openly defend and praise Matt Maloney even though he gave Matt virtually no playing time, even after Matt was released he said that he still thinks he is a very "capable" player and will play in the NBA again (yeah, right); another instance is that he always defended Pip, even after Pimple was traded he said that he talked to him and it was all "professional", to this date he never blamed Pip in public but I am sure he was pissed as hell. Anyway, when you hear Rudy talk you really have to figure out his "hidden line", I, for one, believe that his focus is more on the development or "jelling" of the team, and the way things look right now, I think we are heading to the lottery again. So, why not just TANK right this time. I personally don't see anything wrong with this pholosophy. I mean, there are only 8 teams in the WC that can make the playoffs, LAL, Utah, Portland, SA are locked, Seattle, Phoenix and Sacramento are almost certain to be there, so there leaves one spot for Dever, Minnesota and us, and I think Minnesota, even though they have stumbled so far, has a more complete and "ready" team. I would love to see us winning, but realistically, I would rather be in the lottery than take the #9 spot in the Western Conference. Sometimes in order to deliver a powerful punch you have to hold back your fist first. Going into the lottery may not be as disgusting as some of you guys believe. [This message has been edited by heypartner (edited August 24, 2000).]
A very dark, pessimistic post. The season hasn't even started yet and were talking about tanks. Where's the optimism? I suggest you put away the tank and, instead, oil up your guns for the excellent battles to come. If tanks were to find their way into the battle, then I'm sure the first targets to be destroyed will be the wagons full of "must win or don't care to suffer/watch" personnel. The true fans will be on the front lines every single day ready for whatever comes our way. Surf ------------------
NEWSFLASH- Losing is not fun, Joking about about losing is not funny maybe it is funny to the joker who started this post but not to serious fans. I really thought the 98-99 season was the worst with Quitten and Carr but last year was 10 times worst. Save the jokey jokes for other teams not the Rockets because that is just a lack of respect to the franchise. It was really frustrating last year when people came up to me and said "what happened to the Rockets they fell off" all I could say in defense was injuries killed them. If anyone thinks the Rockets are a joke and should be dressed up in bozo outfits then why watch them but then again I question the anyone who starts a post like this.
yeah **** you ya jerk. ------------------ I've posted so much that what I say must be true. The latest on Maurice Taylor
HeyPeeeeeee, I'm coming with my can of lighter fluid and box of matches to burn your bandwagon down! Tanking talk before the season starts will not be tolerated! Mango, do something about this. ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
Something tells me HP is over his writer's block. ------------------ Current Rocket's Salary & Contract Info
I think HeyP is just throwing stuff out there trying to stir something up. I think he's got an itchy trigger finger and nothing's going on right now except the free agent trade crap. Don't believe half what he's posting right now. ------------------
I think HP Sauce backdoor-mated at least once with LHutz this past summer and he is now attempting to stir up a little more poop, just like his pal! PS: And I guess he succeeded in stirring up just enough of the brown gooey stuff, to draw us flies !!!!!!!!! (Don't ya hate being predictable.)
Seeing what Rudy did with this year's lottery pick, I personally hope our pick next year is as low as possible... ------------------ "At least I screw sheeps..." - Corey Benjamin of the Clutch BBS.

Time for POSTing Practice
If you want us to battle and scrap for every win, no matter how futile the playoff hopes may appear as the season progresses, question: Who championed the battle against TANKers in the most elegant manner last season. Here's a clue: We are going to need you again this year. And here's another clue (see below) -------------------------------------

posted December 17, 1999 03:40 PM
Dear Rudy: What this team needs is ..... your undivided attention to the following !!! Heart They want to win so bad they are playing way above were they should be right now. What do you think has kept them in so many games? Because maybe, collectively they are smarterthan all the veterans on other teams? Nope. Their hearts have been the difference. Talent They have promise for the future. They have talents that are unimagined. They're bursting at the seams with talent. They are probably the most talented Rockets team ever. I am not attempting an argument here. I truly believe this. But talent alone has never won any sporting contest. Opportunity As much as everyone has said they should be doing this or that ... they have just now (with the San Antonio game) figured out that the time to make their mark in the NBA is NOW. Anyone want to bet on the Boston game being a "little different" than the last occasion, 24 hours after Charles' career-ending game? The Real Problem They lack direction. From the bench and from the floor. The Solution They need a couple of leaders. Leaders are not appointed. Leaders are born. Leaders must first assume that role before they can know they will be the leader of any team. I am positive that God gave the Rockets a few leaders to break out of the pack and overtake the followers. Winners These players are all winners. Most if not all had to acquire that particular level of existence. They have been winners where ever they played basketball. They have been the top of the heap. The best on campus, heralded in their hometowns. Winners Can Become Leaders So in their own fashion, they have all been leaders at one time or another. All of them. Hamilton was not just a quarterback, but a leader on his team. Carlos is the head of his family, not by some divine birthright, but by how he has solved problems for everyone, young and old, in the Rogers family. Francis got where he is today because he took charge of his life when it was going down the toilet. He followed no dictates except what his mother taught him and what talents he possessed. The Biggest Unknown factor If Rudy Tomjanovich is the leader we hope he is. If Rudy was the winner we have known him to be. If he truly loves this sport, truly loves his players, he better start believing in this team and not allow it to squander away a season. He better realize that the most harm that could be done to this team, is allow it to harbor feelings that either: (1) they are losers or, (2) that it is okay to lose. I hope it is not whether we end up with more chances at a lottery pick. As a team they would never recover from something like a lost season. Rudy must rethink his position on NOT importing (by trading or exemptions) some support for these guys. A minor lift. Something. They have to win the competitive struggle this season. They don't have to win it all. Or, even come close to the finals or even the playoffs. But this team has got to believe it can compete. Dear Rudy: That is what is important despite everything else. This team MUST BELIEVE that they still can win. Help Them!!!
IP: Logged

[This message has been edited by heypartner (edited August 24, 2000).]
HP: I am probably one of the most laid back posters to this board. Hell, in two years I have only 140 or so posts. And I must admit, your recent posts that show a complete reversal of all you stand for have been quite entertaining during the dog days of summer. But even I do not find this post amusing. Joking about tanking is just not funny. I know you are bored with this off season rhetoric and cannot wait for the games to begin. Stick to the funny stuff. There is nothing funny about losing. ------------------ Save our children from the TAAS test: TAAS test report card TAAS test fact sheet
Behad, Actually...that post was from Dec 30th. And you should see Will's from June 29th titled Tank City 2000. I'm just here to get everyone in shape for the season. There are a lot of tankers about. Trust me. Be prepared. See the inspirational speech above.
We, the WINNERS will squash the opposition at all costs! Anyone that wants to be a part of Tank City needs to move to San Antonio! ------------------ Don't you have anything better to do?
I know all about the tankers on this board and usually just ignore them. But coming from you? I coach three different basketball teams and really look forward to your breakdown of the plays the Rockets run. How about giving us some of that instead of this post? Just make up some game situations. I would find make believe game situations more entertaining than attempting to rile up the kids on the board. ------------------ Save our children from the TAAS test: TAAS test report card TAAS test fact sheet
First off: I don't do "make believe" game situations. Secondly: I enjoy so much breaking down a live game, then to get repetitive crap in my report threads is so disappointing. I am in search of people who want to talk "game". That got destroyed left and right last year by poachers in my threads who repeat stuff like how if we just could trade for so and so... It's like,,,god,,,go to a trade thread dammit. It's like herding cats. This board is going to double is size this year...guaranteed. I'm throwing elbows at stuff that interferes with "game talk". I have a different plan this year. And it involves using the classics from the archives. You ready to see me get to 5000 posts before Xmas. It is called cutting and pasting, and people need to check their sensitivities at the door. by the way: Where's my Jenna!!!
Jenna forgot to check her sensitivities, and hearding cats is damn serious business. ------------------
