Exactly. It's the 2nd major school in a huge football state, with tons of financial resources. It's not a top-tier job w/ USC/UT/ND/OU/etc, but it's pretty good job nonetheless and you'll have tons of potential candidates interested.
fla, notre dame, alabama>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>tamu this is actually what i'm talking about, look who you just compared your program with. coaches still want the nd job and they have a tougher time recruiting there than tamu. recent or past success, a&m just doesn't have as much as you guys would argue. look, i'm not trashing you, i grew up a frustrated longhorn fan by jackie sherrell, but he really is the only coach with alot of success at that program. after r.c. stopped recruiting off rep, its gone down hill.
This has been the rumor that I've heard for nearly 2 years now, and I have to believe its going to end up being him as well. Not sure how I feel about that though. I'm not a big fan of his as a head coach, and I really don't know if he is going to be successful in recruiting despite the fact that NFL experience is usually a good draw for high school kids.
You think the boat has sailed? I assumed it did... If Kubiak were to leave for TAMU (ya right) how weird of a cross roads would that be for Texans/Aggie fans? It would be like one of those Becks beer commercials. I know I would feel lost.
Please tell me you didn't just compare ATM to Alabama and ND. This is exactly the delusional aggie mentality that your critisized about. When people crack on your program they point to such hilarious statements. Plenty of SEC schools support thier teams through good or bad times. Bottom line is A&M is the ugly girl who thinks she's hot. Your going to have to offer a top tier coach (NFL/College) 5-7 million dollars to take that job.
haha ... yeah "I think" should really be replaced with "I'm positive." I really think he would've come to Aggieland 5 years ago though.
The potential for success if there though. No its not OU. But this team was in the Cotton Bowl a few years ago, its can consistently compete in the top 3 of the Big 12. Look at where LSU came from. To me that potential combined with our resources and support make TAMU a top job. And those Notre Dame, OU, USC, jobs don't come along very often...
If I were a parent, I don't think I'd be too fomfortable with the coach who came into my living room and recruited my kid selling his semi-personal information to the highest bidder via the internet. This is just a bizarre story. Is this kind of thing totally unprecedented? I've never heard of anything like this before.
Admittedly that comparison was exaggerated. Fair enough on that one. I am getting the hell out of this thread.
Apparently, lots of coaches have offered this type of VIP newsletter to the big boy Boosters. The difference here is that Coach Fran doesn't release any injury information, while the other coaches usually just made injury info public. I don't understand how it can be illegal as much as it is just unethical.
Wrong!!! Jesus look at the whole picture. LSU was situated smack in the middle of a recruiting hot bed. No other school in Louisiana was getting kids to stay. Nick Saban put a fence around Louisiana. They became the flagship school. Couple that with the relative close proximity to East Texas and LSU was ripe for improvment. Now before you and your brethren shout "Texas is a hot bed. We can recruit Texas." REmeber that your competeing with OU to the north, LSU to the East, and Texas to the west. All three have one national championships in the last 10 years and compete for one almost every year. Getting kids to choose A&M over those schools is an uphill battle and any good coach is going to consider this factor. No amount of money and nut grabbing is going to change that. Unless you start sending Fed Ex envelopes filled with cash.
Actually the point was you can't use Big 12 as an excuse to help your claim that Texas A & M is in elite athletic institution when Baylor can claim the same. Fran left for TAMU because he was homesick and couldn't deal with the pressure of the Alabama fan base during probation. He did the same thing to Alabama that Saban did to the Dolphins.
Ask anyone outside of Texas where the top coaching jobs in the nation are located and not many would even mention Texas A&M. Hell, when I was visiting up north last week not many people had even knowledge of A&M or where they were located in Texas. Just saying that a lot of people's views on what kind of program A&M could be / should be are biased and skewed because they either went to A&M or have knowledge of previous A&M success.
A&M is doing just fine in recruiting for 2008 ... in fact, they've outrecruited LSU, and are not far behind OU and Texas. They've had some good recruiting years (minus 2007), but they have done nothing with the talent so don't tell me recruiting is the problem. Yes we may not be able to compete immediately for all the 5 Stars that make OU, Texas, and LSU Top 10 programs, but there is no reason A&M can't be a consistent Top 25 team with the talent they've been recruiting. Although running High School offenses and defenses doesn't seem to provide much in the way of results despite talent.
