Kyle Lowry 24th pick Kevin Martin 26th pick Chase Budinger 44th pick Luis Scola 56th pick Chuck Hayes Undrafted I wanted to average that, but I don’t even know how since Chuck went undrafted. But this group has got to be the biggest bunch of overachievers in the NBA. I know the pro-tankers hate what that means for us, but you have to at least respect these guys for their sheer determination and heart. “You have to give credit to [general manager] Daryl [Morey] for bringing in those kind of people -- players with a lot of class and who are motivated. Of all the guys on our roster, there's really only one player who came into the league with big expectations, and that's Yao. The rest of us -- we've been the hard workers. I was like the 15th player on the roster my rookie year and had to work my way up. Then I was the No. 1 player for three years. This isn't to disrespect guys, but it's not about hype in Houston. These are guys who have worked their way up the ladder.” -- Kevin Martin Simply awesome.
good post I remember last year Morey saying something about no team without an All-Star has been as good as the Rockets.
Did he mean All-Star in the same year, or ever? Because Memphis and Portland don't have an All-Star this year. Portland is clearly better than us. And last year, Portland was a 50 win team with no All-Star. Roy made it 3yrs ago, though.
Roy made it 3 years in a row before this year. Last year Rockets didn't have any current or former all star playing any meaningful minutes.
Neither Portland nor Memphis, technically, have all-star players, but they have some damned good, all-star caliber talent. Portland has Aldridge, Roy, and Wallace. Memphis has Gay, and Randolph, both of whom could have been all-stars. Martin, and Scola would be the closest that we have to all-star players, and Lowry might have to join that conversation if he continues to play so well.
we overachieve with what we have but the end of the day, we're still mediocre at best. building a team of overachievers doesn't necessarily result in success.
I don't think the all-star matters. Can anyone else think of any team whose player with the highest pick is only 24 overall? Even the worse teams in the league have top pick players.
This is a team supposed to build around Yao/Tmac. Considering both stars are lost due to injury basiclly for nothing, it is a big success. Imaginge Rockets had these role players when Yao/Tmac was healthy. Too bad it came a little too late.
