Is our Twin Tower working? Whatever your answer may be, you are absolutely correct....depending on which half you are looking at. Breaking up the data in halves, Asik + Dwight 2-man lineup (5-game sample size): 1st half: (28 min) OffRtg 70.9 DefRtg 112.6 NetRtg -41.7 2nd half: (32min) OffRtg 113.4 DefRtg 80.3 NetRtg +33.1 (link) Our TT is absolutely trash in the first halves but played at elite level during the second halves! Their defensive rating during 2nd halves is among the top of all 2-man rotations! There is no strong statistical evident to indicate one way or another if TT is working or not; there is small statistical evident supporting that we are the Jekyll and Hyde of two halves, as indicated by this 6-game data, Average 1st Half Margin: -3.3 (projected to be a 24-win lottery team) Average 2nd Half Margin: +7.8 (projected to be a 75+ win team) No convinced by the small sample size? Last season: Average 1st Half Margin: +0.3 (projected to be a 42-win lottery team) Average 2nd Half Margin: +2.7 (projected to be a 56-win team) I am not gonna place the blame on our coaching staff for our slow starts. I will leave those data up there for your own interpretation. For all I know, this slow starts might be McHale's strategy where he purposely care less about effort at the start and then demand a 110% coming out of half time.
What is Offrtg and Defrtg comprised of? Is it simply points for, points against? How is a positive Defrtg (defense rating seems like a positive construct) leading to a negative net score?
Nvm, got it Offensive rating The amount of points scored per 100 possession by a team. For a player, it is the amount of points per 100 possessions that the team scores whilst the individual player in on the court Defensive rating The amount of points allowed per 100 possession by a team. For a player it is the amount of points per 100 possessions that the team allows whilst the individual is on the court
Maybe McHale needs to pre-yell at guys for poor fist half play before the game starts instead of waiting until it actually happens before yelling at them during half time.
Someone call him and tell him (He was a PF) to go with a more traditional 4 even if you have to trot out those sophomores.
This is one of things I can't understand. The difference in intensity is like night and day between the halves and especially between the 1st and 3rd quarters. And it's not just the TT, it's the whole team. And to my surprise, even Beverley was doing it yesterday. His defense was poor and lazy and he couldn't recover in time in the 1st half and aggressive and intense as usual in the second half with much better recoveries after he had temporarily lost his man.
Rockets play half-court during the first half, and their half-court offense isn't good. Second half they run the floor... which is a huge strength of theirs. That's why they can come back.
