So I'm talking to the gf (she's from Europe, but has lived in TX for 10 years or so) while we're cooking dinner last night, and the subject of comfort food comes up. I mention fried chicken & chicken fried steak. "Somebody told me that chicken fried steak isn't really chicken...is that right?" She's not going to hear the end of this for awhile. :D

How about some good cajun food?

    Go with:

    BBQ
Country food (chicken fried steak and such)
    Mexican
    or Cajun.

    Unique to Texas?

Go to breakfast where they make a killer kolache.

    Definitely not in Detroit.

    Gotta add my two cents:

I had some family in from Wales a couple of years ago. My aunt made homemade chicken fried steak with whipped potatos and cream gravy. The next day we went to Ninfa's (the one on Navigation) for queso and fajitas.

They're still talking about traditional Texas food.
