I wonder if there is anyway, if he is traded to the Spurs or maybe Indiana, that we could be a third team an get Parker or Tinsley. Maybe I'm dreaming too much.

Yeah, he could get injured, or he could try to shoot at his girlfriend, or he could be a wasted Trade Exception and draft pick, or he could have bad knees, or he could be a jazzhole or a Pippen, or a Glenn Rice.... I mean, we've made lots of bad moves in the past and we still have McGrady and Yao to show for it in the end. Bottom line, we can recover if Kidd goes down in a Heap. It's not the end of the world. Why not play the odds that he'll be just fine instead of playing the long shot that he'll go down in a heap.

So, a draft pick shooting at his GF and a 31-yr old who just had surgery having an injury are equally likely?

In my eyes, it's PROBABLE that Kidd will have pain in his knees the rest of his career, and very possible it will end his career - sooner or later. That's the chance we would be taking - that's it's later and not sooner.

With knee problems he still is a top tier PG in the league. So he doesn't run as much anymore, he still has all the skills and vet savvy in the half court also. The man knows how to play ball. He probably has the highest basketball IQ then any active player and it's not like he didn't run half court sets with the Nets or Suns. Kidd could be still VERY effective in an offense designed the way the Rockets do because a player like that fits EVERYWHERE and in ANY SYSTEM. Bad knees or not, he still has the ability to create and hit his own shot if he has to, make big plays when they count and (most importantly) sees the whole floor like no one else in the league can. There are alot of players who you worry matching up with others or in a certain offense. Kidd is certainly not one of them.

Saying all that, I can't believe we have any shot at him because of what we can offer and, even as much as I would love for him to be a Rocket, his contract scares me off.

Considering what the new ownership at NJ has been doing, one has to assume that Kidd is available. That said, I agree with the previously stated (and so well argued) that we do not have the right chips to get him.

All that being said, I have the strangest feeling that Kidd is done. Age is catching up to him, knees are bad, just had surgery, huge contract, and I think he is getting a big head. Remember him lobbying for Motumbo and Morning. Well one thing we know is that he will not make it as a GM.

Since when can Kidd create and hit his own shot?

Listen.. The point is... What if he doesn't play at all? What if he plays 50 games per season? He's probably going to miss the beginning of next season as it is.

Parker, no way. NJ would want him in the deal. Tinsley? Possible. He's not the emerging big time young PG that Parker is.

Sane, I agree with you. I really don't want us to get him. It's too much of a gamble because of his contract. If he was much cheaper, I would go for it and take the gamble the he can play a whole season.

But I still believe even with some knee trouble, he is very good point and alot more than what we could imagine we could have this season.

    That is all I'm saying.

Jason Kidd just signed a 100M+ contract last summer, there is no way we can afford him, period.

I agree. If he can play 75+ games a year, then I'm in too, but we don't have that guarantee.

    Yourrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr wrongggggggggggggggg.

7/24/03 - Jason Kidd re-signed with the New Jersey Nets on Thursday, returning to the team he helped rescue from the bottom of the standings and led to two straight NBA Finals appearances.

The contract is for six years and $103 million, Nets president and general manager Rod Thorn said.

Looks like gucci isn't the one that needs to shut up.

Kidds contract runs through 08 / 09 and totals 103,570,000 dollars. Last year his salery was 13,152,000 dollars.

Kidd is only 31 years old and will be 36 in the last year of his contract so I think it is way to early to start thinking he is done. I have never considered Kidds game to be based on speed but I have always thought it was more cerebral, he sees the floor better than any point guard in the game today. He is an exellent passer and gets the ball to his teammates in the best position for them to have success.

Kidd is great at running the break not because he is so fast but because he knows how to run the break and get the ball to the right player at the right time. Kidd is just as good in the half court offense.

Kidd also brings intangibles with him. How many of us want to see Reece Gains turn into a steal? Imagine what he can learn playing with Jason Kidd every day for the next few years?

If we can get Jason Kidd then we need to get him.

Nets want to trim capspace, thats why they traded Kittles for a trade exception and a 2nd round draft pick. They look like a rebuilding team now, and probably will build around Jefferson, so dealing Kidd for them would be useful. Bu they would probably only want our trade exception and expiring contracts. We do need a point guard, so we have to wait to see what the Rockets will do.

we don't need another superstar. i think kidd can still play and his knowledge of the game will keep him valuable throughout the remainder of his contract, but you can't build a team around 3 max contracts. there are bigger needs than a superstar pg escpecially when you already have t-mac and yao who will control the ball most of the time anyways.

in other words just read sane's post it's much better. :)

Kidd want to be on a fast break, running team like the dallas mavericks, I don't think he would fit well in jvg system. plus u would have all ur money stuck on guards, we probably won't have enough money to re-sign YAO.

"Kidd would prefer to be dealt to a team like the Mavericks, who are playoff contenders and play the sort of fast-tempo game Kidd likes, the Daily News source said."
