Someone explain to me why people are getting pissy at me when I call Taiwan part of China. I looked it up. And they're officially called Republic of China. What the dealio man?
The people of Taiwan do not want or consider themselves as part of China. China considers Taiwan part of China. So when you say that, you are taking a side in a political debate. Taiwan is currently trying to make a mostly non-violent case for its freedom. Not sure why everyone's response is 'u dumb'. You are simply ignorant on Taiwanese affairs.
Why doesn't Taiwan want to be part of China? From what I see, China's super rich now with a growing middle class and it is United States' biggest creditor. I mean if I was a nation of 23 million like Taiwan, I would want to team up right?
Would you want your family to be part of a richer family, but you must not speak, write, view p*rn sites or risk death? Just read the political status and if that doesn't explain thing enough, just move on.
It mainly has to do with decades long animosity between the success of Taiwanese little league baseball and the relative failure of mainland China little league baseball.
Why in the world would Taiwan want the live under Chinese rule when they can live under their own rule? Not taking a side in the issue just pointing out the obvious desire to govern one's self.
Here's a good documentary that explores their relationship. Doesn't go into too much detail, but it helps you understand the general atmosphere. <iframe width="560" height="315" src="//www.youtube.com/embed/vJw615t3g_U" frameborder="0" allowfullscreen></iframe> I'd recommend any of the other docs in this series as well Episode 1: Somaliland Episode 2: Trans-Dniester Episode 3: Taiwan (Republic of China) Episode 4: South Ossetia and Abkhazia Episode 5: Nagorno-Karabakh
Who are you to tell anyone about logical steps in any direction? How about you read and learn before you blabber.
Why are you being so disparaging? This is a civil discussion that's helping me to learn more about this history between china and Taiwan.
I'm guessing the average Taiwanese is probably much wealthier than the average Chinese and they don't have to deal with a Communist politburo so that's probably win win in their eyes.
You can offer insensitive and condescending opinions about the choices of an entire region's populace, or you can betray a basic lack of knowledge about global affairs and the Cold War; but you can't do both. Honestly, this is right out of the last part of primary school. http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/Taiwan http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/Main/ChiangKaiShek http://tvtropes.org/pmwiki/pmwiki.php/UsefulNotes/NoMoreEmperors?from=Main.NoMoreEmperors
Lots of factors to consider 1) Taiwan is a democracy/China is communist 2) ideology and values are different 3) there was a civil war that spurred the formation of Taiwan.... That's usually enough to cause some bad blood
If China just claimed Australia, and Australians said they were their own country, which side would you take?
