Is tert-butyl synthetic? Forgive me, I have extremely limited knowledge with this kind of stuff - would this be listed in the nutritional info, and under what name?
I eat fast food once in a blue moon. There is no reason to eat that stuff in Houston. If you're looking to save money, eat a shawarma or at a deli. There are also numerous inexpensive places, such as Thai Cottage. Reference the recent burger thread if you want a real burger.
Apologies for my unfounded claim that I admittedly read from a book and did no subsequent research of my own. My knowledge of chemistry is somewhat limited, I had a horrendous professor from Iran who couldn't explain ****. Regardless, this still doesn't take much away from the fact that a "Chicken" McNugget is one of the worst things you can put in your body from a health standpoint.
out of curiosity, why do you even still eat meat, especially hamburgers? clearly, by now, you are aware of the negative impacts of eating meat. Granted, if you are doing a really really really good job ensuring you are only eating organic, free range, non modified meats, you've taken a big step in the right direction, though there are of course other health aspects to eating meat that are bad. Again, just curious... Since you already seem to have moved to more Whole Foods / Farmer's Market type shopping, it should be really easy to replace the meat portion of your diet with whole foods. the small one on woodway @ voss the other day had this prepared food soy nugget dish that was, without a doubt, better than any chicken nugget i've ever had. it was sooo good.
This. I sincerely hope no one in this thread was trying to argue that TBHQ was a "good thing" to ingest.
Not frozen. In the dish. They've had it before, too. I guess they were trying to get rid of all their tofu type stuff that day (our one complaint about the Voss location is generally that they have less stuff for vegetarians because most of the people in the neighborhood aren't exactly extremely liberal, veggie types...). They had two other tofu dishes - both of which are also good. I know one is the Bali BBQ Tofu cubes - those are really good - tastes like a chinese food dish. Can't remember the name of the other one. But the "soy nugget" one is far and away the best. It has a "meaty" texture to it, great flavor, tastes great cold or hot. It's just hard to describe, but man is it good.
Whole Foods sucks. Everytime I've shopped there I was thoroughly disappointed. The felafel? The deli? Ugh. At least go to Central Market if you want better shopping ingredients. Whole Foods comes off as opportunists more than environmentalists. The food is just blech.
I have yet to EVER disagree with you on anything about food. Central Market OWNS whole foods and it isn't even close.
There's a tofu dish at Central Market that is amazing, and last time I was at the Voss WF I saw something that looked exactly like it...it was cubed tofu with carrots (may have had bean sprouts too, can't remember) that had this amazing gingery sweet and spicy thai sauce on it. Come to think of it, it may have had peanuts as well. I had it cold and it was one of the best tofu meals ever - although someone once made agave-fried tofu and it was (sinfully) delicious.
