I was really hoping they'd make the price around $300. I know it's a very quality build, but I have 0 interest in Windows RT otherwise. I was only interested because it seemed like the price would be low, at that price point I'm a lot more interested in an Android tablet (I don't intend on buying another Apple product any time soon) because it's a refined OS. Really disappointing... On the up side of things, I just got a brand new Kindle Fire (non-HD) for $80. Pretty happy about it.
I can attest to this; I've gone there many times and was there for their game launches of Gears of War 3 / Modern Warfare 3 / Halo: Anniversary. They were easily the best launch parties I've been to at any retail store. Although I will say, as a whole the people who play CoD are some of the biggest douches I've ever had the misfortune of interacting with.
That is pretty pricey! Grrr. I'm actually looking for a laptop replacement. I'd like something fanless that weighs much less and thinner which it seems the Surface Pro is. it could easily replace my 10.1 galaxy tab as well to as no matter how good android becomes there are just some things you can't do on an android tablet or the iPad. The price is disappointing and the pro doesn't have HDMI but it does have displayport which can be converted to HDMI with an adapter. My experience with those adapters are hit and miss at times. Primarily with the audio as it seems to be hit or miss when it's connected to specific TVs.

Went to the store. It's the exact same thing as an Apple store. I asked some sales people questions about the Lumia 920 and Surface RT vs Pro. They knew even less than I did. I was disappoint. Honestly, right now I'm leaning towards avoiding the Surface altogether. I went from "definitely getting a Pro" to "I'll settle for an RT" to "if I got anything it would have to be on a great sale." 5 Big Things That Baffle Me About RT Windows RT is Having an Identity Crisis
At the Mall of America in Minnesota, it is directly across from The Apple Store. It is like the designer looked at The Apple Store and told the builders to "do that".
I think the claims that RT will confuse consumers by the masses is highly overblown. I can assure you that Microsoft Store employees will be well versed in the differences by launch day. I have a 64GB + Touch Cover on order, hoping it arrives early.
the one thing you have to do is see what the consumers buy. tech bloggers/advertisements do not equal sales. it's way too easy to start a blog and dismiss a product these days, yet we put so much value in their writing.
My problem with the RT is the inability to use common apps that you can use with any other Windows product. You can only use what is preloaded on there. WTF. Also, the stripped down version of Office could be a deal-killer, depending on how stripped down it is. I want this to use while at work, not just for playing on Facebook.
Office for iOS and Android reportedly confirmed by Microsoft product manager, due March 2013 Regardless, I was really hoping for a tablet that I can use the Office suite on. You also cannot use the RT for commercial use. WHY??? That is ridiculous. Businesses can't use Office on Windows RT tablets!?
You can use it as long as you also have a commercial license on another system you own. They just don't want to cannibalize their office sales which is their most profitable product.
