You crazy Texans care way too much about school affiliation and football.

But I'm ok with the latter.

Such hate coming from your fingers!

Your sweater vest comment made me lol.

Like I said before, it annoys me. I've never told anyone who to cheer for, but it's ammo for me in an argument. When I see an alumni of University of Phoenix post something on facebook to the likes of "Suck it A&M, you will always be the second tier university in Texas" after the game last night, I roll my eyes and think of how poor that person is.

I'm guessing 75% of my friends in Houston went to Texas. I've even gotten backed up by them when someone who went to Ole Miss talks **** to me. Doesn't it make you feel small to put on a shirt of a school you couldn't get into? Once again, the royal "you."

I've never tried to hide the fact that it annoys me more because I'm an Aggie. Just wanted a discussion and to find out what goes through someone's head when they go buy a shirt and put it on when they went to a different school.

This. I've never seen another fanbase complain about t-shirt fans as much as the Aggies do.

Texas realizes that marketing is key. While the whole "From the outside looking in, you can't understand it" stuff that the Aggies pull is great for school spirit, it is not marketable. UT has had a very successful sports run in the last decade or so, and like any good business, they are making sure everyone knows it. Obviously, the ESPN deal is the best example of this. And with marketing comes t-shirt fans. No matter what anyone will try and say, money is key even in college sports, and the cash cow that is Longhorn sports just allowed the football team to pay $400k for a new OL coach.

One thing I have trouble grasping is why t-shirt fans are such a bad thing. Especially when the Aggies try and make me (a holder of a Texas degree) feel bad for it. What am i supposed to do, not allow these guys in my tailgate? Make them take off their jersey at the game? What about all those "Aggies" that go to Blinn. Do you guys look down on them? Do you make them feel bad for rooting for a school they don't attend? Of course not.

It seems like everyone has forgotten that 15 years ago, the state of Texas was covered in maroon and white. The Aggies need to stop worrying about t-shirt Longhorn fans, and start focusing on winning more than two bowl games in 20 years. Winning is the easiest way to snag these bandwagoners...

How is this relevant again? I've seen the movie, you're grasping.

yeah, there always appears to be an academic/status aspect of these debates from the B-CS side of the aisle.

Does this mean everybody that goes to a school with a higher academic ranking can rag on every other school at will?

Do you really want to set this precedent, and give every MIT nerd and Middlebury Classics major carte blanche to rail on your beloved Agriculturals?

I'm from Houston, went to high school in San Marcos, and spent most of my formative years in Austin where my very first college football game was a Texas game. My dad was a life-long Texas fan. I was accepted to UT, but attended elsewhere. I've been a Longhorn fan my whole life. I'm not a crazy die-hard fanatic, but I'll be damned if I haven't earned the right to cheer for them.

I went to OU for nursing school, and I'm still a Texas fan. I'm proud of my academic achievement at OU, and I'm still a Texas fan. I'm proud of the education I received at OU, and I'm still a Texas fan. I hope OU does well, because lord knows they have enough of my money. Yet I am still a Texas fan.

You don't just switch life-long allegiances because you attend school somewhere else.

Same here. What's good for my hometown schools is good for my hometown.

Really. I like A&M as well. Quite a bit, actually. I went to a military school, I have mad respect for military schools and the military in general, and I have always thought very highly of A&M in general, and the Corps of Cadets in particular.

I have an A&M tshirt, and I'm rather fond of it. So eATMe.

It's not about ragging on anyone. It's about knowing your role. I don't post statistics of Ivey League rankings and say, "Suck it, Yale. Princeton is #1 again! Second tier Ivey league b****es!" I would look like an idiot.

I also wouldn't wear a Princeton shirt unless I was wearing a nerd costume. Princeton nerds!!! Get in your locker, square!!!

What hissy fit or incoherent rambling? You asked how people could root for professional teams when they didn't live in that city. I threw out an example.

Also, I pointed out how I still root for Houston teams even though I have lived in Minnesota for close to 20 years.

It's getting technical now... We all have to be aware of our roles. Haha.
