We just can't compare them in Vacuum. Nether Omer or Dwight Howard if rockets get him in the offseason have good ranges and they also thrive in putback. Dmo also has a good chemistry with Omer and they have a symbiosis mutualism relations . Dmo teach Omer some O and Omer teaches Dmo some D.

D-Mo is "naturally" gifted with more tools than T-Rob.

Offensively, if he reaches his potential it'll be hard to stop a 7-footer who can shoot the 3-ball and tango under the basket. Slow PF's/C's are going to be bamboozled.

The key here is to keep getting him minutes until the end of the season, then work on his stamina/muscle/jumper in the offseason.
If he does that, I project him to be a solid threat in his 3rd season. I'm talking 18ppg/7rbpg/2apg

Sky is the limit for D-Mo.

T-Rob is not gifted offensively at all. But he can be a solid defender and eat up serious rebounds.
I'd be happy if he's able to get around 10-12 rbpg and contribute a little offensively. A PF version of Asik with more athleticism.

2-years down the road a rotation of Asik-DMo-TRob at the 4/5 sounds exciting.

And don't count out Jones just yet.

In the immortal words of Joey Tribiani, put your hands together. I think Rockets are set at PF for the now and future. Motiejunas well be better offensive player. I suspect Robinson will be better defensive player and be better rebounder.

It sucks to be Jones. If he has gotten acclimated to NBA defensive schemes, he could become a solid player. I just don't see him every catching up to Motiejunas and only catching up to Robinson if Robinson falters.

An athletic freak who can consistently play above the rim is not gifted? There's not much you can do to stop a tomahawk dunk.

He's talking more on a nightly basis. Pure athleticism makes your defense much better. However, on the offensive side, you need more finesse (post moves, range, soft hands) to be succesful.

Are you seriously comparing Dwight to T-Rob?

    Dwight has height. T-Rob doesn't.
Dwight is excellent at PnR. T-Rob - ?
Dwight was never a project. T-Rob is.

In conclusion, T-Rob's athleticism (combined with smallishness) doesn't really translate into a dominant offensive force (Howard's on the other hand, does).

D-Mo is just one of many holes on defense right now. Even if you fill that one hole, the ship's gonna sink anyways. Might as well start D-Mo now while we have to outscore teams to win.

If we were a great defensive team, I'd rather start T-Rob, since D-Mo gives them a weakness to attack.

At this point, playing D-Mo over T-Rob doesn't really make us that much worse defensively (because we suck already), but makes us much better offensively.

I think their future playing time may end up being determined by who can steal some backup C time. First one to get to that point gets a free 5-10 extra minutes a game.

Dwight is an undersized center who has zero post moves and was a major project that happened to pan out (with the help of HGH? No one really knows!). Oh, and T-Rob was quite good at the PNR coming out of college.

Dwight actually dislikes the PnR. That's the issue that they have been having with him all year long.

dmo seems to be that rare stretch 4 that we have been looking for that can actually rebound, block shots and shoot from outside

from the game yesterday, he seems to provide very good spacing and was savvy in getting open shots from 3s to layups

Trob has yet to show me his athleticism so I hope he improves. Would be great if he can be like a Kenneth Farried

    Dwight standing reach: 9'3.5"
    T-Rob standing reach: 8'10"

    :(

I'll take D-Mo though, because he sets screens for ballcarrying Lin/Harden relentlessly.

I'd say he already is more useful than Jordan Hill. His game also seems pretty different than Chris Bosh's.
