Yeah, that is a great idea, just as the team is getting good, just fill it up with old has-been cancerous players. DD
I know he's a cancer, but if he's cheap and hopefully IF he's matured, he wouldn't be a bad addition to any team...Texans, I think they're stacked, but a little competition wouldn't be bad...Why wouldn't a Denver, New England or even the Browns be interested...hell, I got to believe the Jets/Ryan would be able to handle TO... Although, given the ownership in Houston, this will never happen...
he's 36...if he hasnt matured now he never will. Plus, you mentione that he would create competition...what competition? At best, he would be the 4th best WR on the team, behind AJ, Walter and Jones.
Pros - One of the best WR's of all time and maybe still has some left in the tank - Certainly would bring some attention to the Texans - Defenses would have to respect him, possibly opening up more space for AJ - Very good run blocking WR. - Was much more low key and well liked in Buffalo. Cons - He's 36 - Hands have gotten worse with age. - Potential for huge blowup is always there. - Him on the field means less time on the field for JJ, who I believe is ready to take the next step.
Why do people keep saying TO is washed up? Last year for the Bills Lee Evans had 44 grabs for 612 yds. The year before he had 63 grabs for 1017 yds. Is Lee Evans washed up? TO had 55 grabs for 817 yds -- the year before with the Cowboys he had 69 grabs for 1052 yds. The steep decline last year had everything to do with the Bills offense. TO has definitely lost a step from his prime, but he still has plenty of skill. Yes, his attitude can be a major problem, but he was pretty quiet last season. If a team can grab Owens cheap - I think it is worth the risk.
OK so who do you guys want to cut? David Anderson or Andre Davis? This is crazy talk. Let this guy ride our coat tails for some additional stats? No thanks
I'd easily cut Andre Davis. Dude isn't worth his contract. Then, I'd look for a trade partner for Walter. Maybe throw in a draft pick, too, and try to get some defensive help or OLine depth. Then, sign TO. Then, roll with Johnson, Owens, Jones, Dickerson, and Anderson as the WRs. Sick lineup right there. A lot of height, speed, and strength.
even with that scenario Owens would still be behind Jones and Walter. Jones because he needs the playing time. If he can make a big step this year like he did last, he is going to be very exciting. Walter had a down year but he is a great possession guy who has good hands and doesnt alligator arms when going across the middle
yeah that swagger was the real difference maker for Buffalo and Dallas, right? I could drop a turd on Reliant's turf and it would do more for the Texans than this loser.
those two girls with him are annoying. they keep interrupting, like we want to hear what they have to say. he said texans are a viable option, and that goal is to play for a contender.
stopped reading here. really, after 36 years of being a first class ass, you hope this guy will suddenly mature? it ain't happening, bro.
I say try it... it's not like he would be the primary option anyways... I can only imagine if he lined up opposite AJ how many more wide open catches the receivers would get. They couldn't double team everyone. Plus he's out to prove he isn't a distraction. I remember an interview last year where I thought the reports were trying to egg him on and he took it like a champ surprisingly. It be different if we "relied" on him as our best reciever... but that's not the case. He turns into a headcase.. just sit him on the bench ...
There may be plenty of off-field reasons not to sign TO, but let's not pretend like Jacoby Jones is better than him. His career year last year averaged 30 yards per game. And that's with an all-star QB throwing to him without having to ever deal with double teams or ever being covered by opposing teams' top defenders. TO, in his worst season, did better in a totally dysfunctional offense with a terrible QB. JJ is a nice player that fits a nice niche role on the team. He is not, however, a gamechanging player that commands any particular attention from a defense.
