Yes. The pre-order offer through the tmobile site requires you to choose either the $25 or $35 bundled data packages, but when you get the phone - you can call a CSR and have them drop the data plan without any data plan charges.
Whats wrong with Windows Mobile? It can do everything iphone does, plus more. Not to mention that the customization options are endless. There's already a working Android rom out there that runs off Windows Mobile 6.1.
Not that I ever advocate texting while driving, but I think texting on touchscreen is tougher then texting with physical qwerty keyboard while one hand on the wheel. Plus the phones with the slide out keyboard should be able to text from touchscreen also.
I need to do more research but I"m leaning toward G1 as I have t-mobile already, but I don't have contract so I can go anywhere...
What OS does the HTC Touch HD use? and what carrier is it with? that phone + android might be something special...of course, assuming android is lives up to the hype
has anybody ordered the G1 yet? I can't figure out how to order one from the tmobile web site. Their site sucks!
I actually just ordered mine today. You first have to register your phone number with the t-mobile website. From there, its pretty much easy. You'll see G1 ads on the first page, just click and you'll see. You can get it for $179 with a 2 year contract agreement and a $25 or $35/month data plan. Pretty good deal as retail goes for $399.
I ordered a G1 on account of my medical school acceptance. I was able to cancel enough future interviews to pay for this phone. Now, I cannot wait until 11/10 to get it. Does anyone else think that the open market might be better than the app store?
I think it will be as good, if not better. Since it is a open OS, there are going to be a lot of programs and applications from 3rd party developers. There's already freeware sites with loads of programs. Phone is hardly even out and guys are already cranking out programs. Very excited to get this phone. Some folks that preordered early are already getting their phones shipped.
Looking at a jailbroken iPhone will probably give you a good idea of how it will go. That's pretty much wide open. I think I heard that TMobile will start charging for their apps next year, but I'm not sure how that works with Android just yet.
I own the 3g Iphone and it is just nuts. I have never had a easier to use mobile device than it. The Google people are smart and I would to see how this phone does.
It was revealed last week that Touch HD will not be brought stateside. You could still buy the phone and bring it to America, but you would be without 3G use here. Rumor has it that RIM is working on a Blackberry Storm HD. If this version of the Storm were to have WiFi (the Storm doesn't) it would be the monster to kill my current phone, iPhone 3G. But then again, another rumor has Microsoft, fresh off it (makersof the Sidekick) now buying RIM to help boost it's status in the Smartphone world. Can you imagine what Microsoft might be able to produce after buying Danger and RIM. That would put some serious pressure on Apple.
This wimax phone might be why the HD Touch isn't coming out. * 3.8″ 800×480 WVGA LCD * GSM+WiMax * 802.11g WiFi * Bluetooth 2.0 http://mobilitysite.com/2008/10/is-this-why-the-htc-touch-hd-isnt-coming-to-the-us/
