You could turn around, cancel your contract ($200) and sell the phone on craigslist ($300-375) and still come out ahead. Sorry fellas, this was full of win all the way around. I was looking to jump carriers too, so still might but had to pick up on this just for the return value.
You sure about that? I was under the impression that that the penalty also involved how many months were left on your contract. Otherwise, why wouldn't people rip off T-mobile for some easy money?
Unless things have changed and I don't know, the full cancellation fee for T-Mobile is $200....if your X amount of months into your contract, then its prorated. Here's the legalese from T-Mobiile's terms: THE EARLY TERMINATION FEE IS: $200 IF TERMINATION OCCURS WITH MORE THAN 180 DAYS REMAINING ON YOUR TERM; $100 IF TERMINATION OCCURS WITH 91 TO 180 DAYS REMAINING ON YOUR TERM; $50 IF TERMINATION OCCURS WITH 31 TO 91 DAYS REMAINING ON YOUR TERM; AND THE LESSER OF $50 OR YOUR MONTHLY RECURRING CHARGES (including any applicable taxes and fees) IF TERMINATION OCCURS IN THE LAST 30 DAYS OF YOUR TERM. Find it here: http://www.t-mobile.com/Templates/Popup.aspx?PAsset=Ftr_Ftr_TermsAndConditions&print=true Article 3. If I'm misunderstanding it, someone step in and help me out.
Ugh. After reading further legalese it seems data plans are now REQUIRED with all smartphones on T-Mobile. If you speak to loyalty dept, you can get it down from $30/mo to $20/mo. Also doesn't seem like I'll be able to flip it as previously hoped for. Once again from Terms & Conditions: Some Devices require maintaining certain features or Services (e.g. a data plan) as part of your Rate Plan, and cancelling them before the end of your Term will result in an Early Termination Fee. Blah. Although on the 2 lines I currently upgraded, I'm only getting charged on 1 for data....we'll see what happens.
Have had the G2 for a couple of months and really like it. I rarely use the keypad because I prefer swype.
Yes, for this deal you have to get a data plan. They are selling unlimited plan for $20 instead of $30 if you get this deal.
Yes, the G2 and MyTouch4G are both better phones than the galaxy. The Galaxy ain't too shabby either but if you have the chance to get the g2 for free, do it.
If you have a data plan already, then this is the phone for you. It uses the new 4G network which, afaik, only the 'G2' and 'MyTouch 4G' can use.
Just called and got my data plan for $20. Now I'm happy. =) Planning on rooting this baby and using it to tether wifi and pull 10-16mbps speeds.
Do you have to be on a contract with T-mobile to get this offer? I know someone who's been with T-mobile without contract for about 4-5 years, paying about $60/month for some sh!tty voice plan. There has got to be some value to being screwed year after year right? The person did call in a few months ago to upgrade but they said its only available for people on contract, is there a way around this? TIA.
Sounds like bull, I'd try calling again and going directly to customer loyalty. I was out of contract, and got it with no issues at all. They should be doing whatever it takes to satisfy you, especially when your out of contract. I used my out of contract leverage to pull the $20/mo plan too on data.
Can existing customers get $10 off their data plan without upgrading? This would save me so much money!
Also, I figured i'd mention it here, but if you currently dont have any discounts (corporate, student, etc) on your account you can always sign up for: http://www.freelancersunion.org/ I did it, it was free, then called T-Mobile and told them to give me my discount and ended up saving 15% on my monthly T-Mobile bill. Enjoy.
I was unaware of it so I simply asked for the free phone. But, if you try, make sure you ask them that "I would like to participate in the tmobile loyalty program that lets you upgrade to the G2 for free with $20 data plan".
