Isn't Hong Kong one of the most expensive places to live in the world? I'm sure the people living there aren't too concerned about how they look to mainland China.
it's true that Hong Kong is rich, the per capita GDP of Hong Kong is on similar levels with places like Australia and Japan, and roughly 5 x what it is in China. Of course that doesn't adjust for PPP, but anyway the point is that Hong Kong only makes up something like 0.5% of the population of the PRC. Yao Ming is not from Hong Kong, he's from Shanghai.
These guys all have florida homes for 2 reasons... 1) no state oincome tax (like here) 2) if you ever get sued personally/have to declare bankruptcy for any reason, Florida is the only state (im believe the only one ) that no one can touch your home.
I hate to say it, but now that you mention it, it actually makes sense to have 3 elevators. It's almost not extravagant. Back to the Yao issue... glad to see Yao's living reasonably. You wanna talk about role models... the way *he* lives is really going to impact an entire generation of Chinese. If he lives it up with ho's on his arms and caddy's in the garage, it could inspire a few million Chinese to follow. Very glad he's keeping it clean and plain.
Until you guys have a casino on one of your floors, you arent even close to my level. 5 black jack tables 3 roullete tables 2 craps table Tons of slot machines (I hate them, but they rake in good money for me) and, of course 5 poker tables (Sam Farha is a regular) All this is "underground"...so lets keep it on the DL.
Yao did trade in his Sequoia for a $100,000 BMW. I'm just saying that it's not fair to hold one man up to the expectations of a billion chinese people. He's not a saint. I'm sure that there are all types of people in China, some that would even have "ho's and caddy's" if the oppurtunity presented itself.
I don't see what the big deal is. T-Mac has an entourage to house! What, are they supposed to sleep on the couch and meditate in the LIVING ROOM?!
Yao's from Shanghai so he should've seen enough people with ho's and caddy's. I think Yao's reallly trying to be a role model for the whole China instead of his hometown, which is why he's living more piously (relatively).
