Congrats to T-Mac. He's worth the veteran minimum if he doesn't cause chemistry problems and accepts the bench role and limited playing time. Whilst he certainly doesn't have that great first step quickness, he almost certainly has not lost the great passing and vision skills. I wish him the best.
I wonder if he will go back to wearing #1. He wanted to switch to #3 to raise awareness for his Darfur work but he hardly played last year for anyone to see him wear #3. Stuckey already wears #3 on the pistons if would be funny if he went back to wearing #1 well hopefully he does well there but its sad that he had to go to detroit of all places for the vet min.
Nice timing...I just clicked on this thread to post speculation about his number as well. 3 is already taken as you said so I think he will probably go back to #1.
can't wait to see the Fierce Tmac stuck on the bench behind Stuckey, Gordon, Rip, Tayshaun, Jerebko, and Daye
As long as he is pain free, he should be fine. He still has some skill, and if he can rejuvenate his game, he can still be a good player. I still don't get how Paul Pierce averages over 22 ppg in his career with such limited athleticism.
I'm happy for him, but I don't expect him to keep his mouth shut on the bench all year, especially if they are not winning.
Because he doesn't RELY on his athleticism. If T-Mac could learn to do the same, he could still be a starter in this league. His BB IQ, height, passing skills and court awareness are all great, and he can be a solid shooter when he's on. It remains to be seen whether or not he's willing to adapt to his newfound lack of hops. Stevie never did, and he's sitting in the barbershop these days.
Half this board would blow their brains out thinking about if they should root for the T-Macked Pistons and the Lebroned Heat. Lakers can't save you now!
ppl have to realize that TMac is a low energy guy, he cannot give you the instant offense boost as a bench player. Even 3 or 4 years ago as a starter, he often needed 5-10 minutes to warm up to get into the rhythm.
Can someone who has been here a while go way back and find me the thread where it announced Houston was getting T-Mac back in 2004? I'm just curious to see the reaction in that thread.
that is one thing i wish tmac can learn to do. but he also has to be pain-free. if he is, i think he will do fine.
Not sure why he'd go through the NBA grind for 1.3. At least with Shaq and the ring chasers in Miami, there is some reason. Why would you take small change to finish your career on a bad team? Unless he thinks he can still play well enough to get MLE next year from a contender.
Good for Tmac, hope he does well and gets his career back on track. I think he has a few good years left in him (even though I don't think he will get back to his pre 2008 form).
Bulls vice president of basketball operations John Paxson told "The Waddle & Silvy Show" on ESPN 1000 that McGrady had "a very good workout" for the team, but didn't fit with their plans. "It was more based on the youth of our team and where we're at. He'll do well. Tracy looked like he was just going to turn the corner physically," he said.
He’s been working out again this summer under Chicago-based trainer Tim Grover, and Will Bynum, another Grover protégé, said after re-signing with the Pistons in late July that McGrady is looking like, well, McGrady.
