Not to burst anyone's bubble, but this doesn't really sound good to me. From the Chron article: It doesn't say he'll undergo conditioning tests on Nov 23; it says "he will undergo an additional MRI". To me, that suggests not that they aren't confident in his strength or conditioning, but rather that they have doubts about whether the tissues in his knee have healed enough for him to play without risking further injury. If it were just a question of conditioning, why would they need the MRI?
Exactly. I mean what's going on? I am completly confused. Imagine this situation. The guy leaves Chicago, his trainer Groover his doctors who performed the surgery and has been controling him all the time. They are all saying he is ready. They guy is back in Houston on Media Day and he knows he is readt, etc. He goes to the ym and is told that he neds to rehab for 2 more months? Is that normal? They haven't seen him play. They don't know what he can and what he can't. I understand if the said it after at least 1 PRACTICE. But they haven't watched ANYTHING. What is going on?
Just in time to get back in shape for a solid second so he can actually put forth some effort for his NEXT contract for his NEXT team. Here's a though, how about putting forth some effort for your CURRENT contract and your CURRENT team. Did I seem bitter? Good, because I am!
And he would probably still be playing hobbled, thus having an excuse for his crappy play. Rockets dont want him to have ANY excuses to fall back on this time.
they will determine if he can "practice" after nov 23.. after an MRI that too.. ? crazy.. that means Tracy has a long way to go right? atleast mid or end of december before we can see him on court? experts comment please..
I'm pretty sure he doesn't want to play hobbled this time around... I think he's a lot more focused than last season. He just wants to play basketball. He wants to be a part of the team. You heard/saw him last year. During the playoffs, he wanted so badly to be out there. This is what he does. Basketball is his life.
The organization is estimating he's got 8 weeks of rehab left before he should practice with the team. At that time they will make sure things have progressed to the point that they are expecting. I think this is a safe way of moving forward. Also it limits his season a bit which is smart. They can determine where the season is headed after the first 15 games and plan accordingly.
I think your point about the team wanting to establish an identity without him is the key here. He isn't going to be here after this season so why bring him back so soon and let the offense regress back to the "watch McGrady" days of the past. The team is fully committed to Adelman's offense in as pure a form as they can get it. They are also ready to let the young guys step to the front and start carrying the team.
Um. Okay? No? There's only one point to rehab if you're a professional athlete. Rehabilitation -1. to restore to a condition of good health, ability to work, or the like. Players rehab to get back on the court/field/whatever.
hey man if the guy is able to practice with the team I think that is successful rehab. They said all along that the recovery would be 6 months minimum....and it has been about that. Now let's move on. Now it is tiime for him to make that next step...training on the court like an NBA player. Let him work through that now. I think the work he did in Chicago was good work. Not willing to say that he is born again but he is now able to move on to the next level. I am fine with the news. Makes sense for the first time with the Rockets. Instead of just throwing him out there. Not surprised. When Yao is able i expect the Rockets to follow the same type of limitation.
Do you really think he's ready to start practicing w/ the likes of Ariza, Battier etc? From all the video evidence, he doesnt look like he's anywhere close to start practicing with NBA players. I know those videos are a few weeks old, but his return is still a work in progress.
I hope he does take it easy and comes back when he's near 100%. It's no secret this season will be a wash. I'd rather get a lottery pick this year, trade Mac or let him expire, and build around Yao next year than barely making the playoffs this year. If McGrady does come back near all star level he's still 30 years old and once he gets that extension or new contract will he still have the same desire to work on his conditioning and game? Only time will tell I guess.
i assumed he would practice but not play. i don't watch his videos. but just the way comments have been made it sounded like he was able to take part in practice
