sounds like they're being cautious which is good. Even having him back before the all-star game would have been a plus when he went in for surgery last season.
This is still earlier than we expected when he initially underwent surgery so it's actually pretty good news. I know that most were hopeful with all the positive reports that he may be ready now, but the cautious approach is the right one.
Folks... I'm not sure why many people are soo surpise by this. Morey has stated several times that the game plan wasn't to bring Tracy back until late Nov. to early December. There are many reasons for this. It gives the team time to gel and grow. What good is it going to be for the Rockets to bring in T-Mac if he isn't fully healthy. We saw what happened before. Let's face it... This is a totally different team than last year. No Artest, no Yao, and no guessing game with T-Mac. From what I'm guessing, their main goal is to get the team chemistry back to what it was from last year. Make sure the team is sound before bringing in T-Mac. It's a smart way to go about it. Could he still be traded? Yes but their main concern is making sure they have a healthy team rather than a team with uncertainties...
I figured after I saw week 7 that he wouldnt be ready by training camp. For an update that is supposed to portray how hard he is working and the progress he has made, it definitely didnt translate to his bball portion of the video.
I think that both Morey and Adelman will want to delay his progress a bit for one of many reasons... which is... I think they want to give Ariza/Budinger/Taylor some big opportunistic minutes to kind of fix the rotation and decide where/if McGrady will fit in.
some jumpshots and only showed the ones he made, layup off his left knee which had no lift, pull ups off the dribble and some movement without the ball, all at jogging speed
We have a boatload of athletic guards who are eager to prove their worth. The last thing I want to see is that slow it down pace Tmac loves to play where he ISO's in the post and the ball doesn't move. I dont want to see that anymore. More than anything, getting his leg strong will be essential for him to be able to move, cut, and be able to run on fastbreaks so that our offense stays afloat.
Didn't he have the doctor who performed the surgery with him in Chicago? Doesn't he do an MRI already? Let's hear what Tracy has to say about this news
Have you seen any of the video updates? It looked like he had made very little progress Basketball wise since the 5 on 5 scrimmage. I know when Mcgrady takes a jumper he never really elevates, but in a video that is supposed to be showing off his progress, I figured he would try a bit harder if he had it in him. So I dont know for sure that he isnt 100% back to his old healthy self, but judging from the video, it looked to me that he had a ways to go. Thats why I wasnt surprised when I heard that they were waiting till Nov 23rd at the earliest for his return.
It basically shows him doing exercises in the gym, doing dumbell shoulder presses screaming "C'mon b****!," at himself, etc. Some of the exercises look pretty unique (and difficult) In the basketball part, he shoots jumpers, and goes around picks at half-speed. Couple of easy dunks (jumping off his left leg), etc. Bottom line, it shows that he's working hard, but it's hard to tell if there are still lingering effects of pain, etc. Also, I think "week 7" is at least 2-3 weeks ago, maybe more.
Yes, the "Week 7 Video" is more than 3 weeks old, I believe. McGrady stated on Skillzlab, that he's finished all 10 "Road to Recovery" weekly videos and is working on a bunch of basketball clips.
that's the wise thing to do. This is an extremely serious surgery and recovery process. There will be no good in rushing him back...it would only create more problems (see Amare when he rushed back). I would actually be leaning more toward late december or early Jan. I just think caution is prudent.
