I have concerns, but speculation is just that. Until we find out more, I just go with what we know.
As far as being cleared to play, I mentioned this in another post. There's a difference between, "yes, he can play" and "yes, he can play and do what he's accustomed to."

I would think it's in the teams interest in selling tickets to say, "yes, he can play," and that's it. T-Mac has been pretty honest since day one of this season that his knee seems jacked. Just the opinion I've formed myself. Maybe I'm just too much of an optimist.

So you don't think there's anything strange about the Rockets believing T-Mac is going to play through his injuries and then finding out through a third party that he's not?

And Adelman basically just gave a no-comment when he was asked about T-Mac.

and yes, when a player is injured, you can always pile on. those reporters from those shows simply go with the flow. tracy was getting bashed at that time repeatedly like he is now.

    so what's new?

yea i'm sure they're surprised. they expected him to be out 1 week but he said 3. they pay tracy to play at a high level. they don't pay tracy to be "mediocre."

yes they're surprised, but they're supporting the guy. tracy said he'll be ready to go near full strength by the end of this month.

i think if you ask anyone in this organization that the possiblity of tracy being healthy by the end of this month, they'll agree with his decision.

The problem is that both medical opinions he got were that "yes, he can play" and also that "playing will help his knee get better". That's the critical issue that people are missing here. The course of treatment both doctors prescribed is playing limited minutes in games.

If he was going to be out for three weeks why didn't he tell the Rockets before he told the media?

he probably did tell the high upper people, and probably not the coaches and players yet. that's all.

tracy was never a smart guy with the media.

but again, the organization is still behind him so they obviously support his decision. you're making it seem like they're putting the marbury treatment on him.

and after what the players said on the chron's article, they also support tracy. shane and ron both agree that it's better that he's out and provides a timetable for being out rather being a game-time decision.

so move on and keep playing.

McGrady’s pronouncement that he would be on the shelf for most of December was a mild surprise to Rockets coaches and officials.
After the 6-8 guard was evaluated by Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala., on Monday, the team released a statement saying Andrews had confirmed the initial medical assessment of Rockets team physician Dr. Tom Clanton that McGrady is suffering from general soreness in his left knee related to his continuing rehabilitation from offseason surgery.
The statement said McGrady would continue his current rehab program designed to alleviate the discomfort in his knee, would likely miss a week, and would continue to have his playing time restricted upon his return in order to lessen the stress on the injured knee.

Rockets coach Rick Adelman tried joking about his injury-plagued team, which, in addition to McGrady, has already had Yao Ming, Shane Battier and Brent Barry sidelined for portions of the infant season.
“Let me ask you: Who do I have tomorrow?” Adelman cracked to reporters. “It’s kind of been a never-ending story this year with guys in and out.”
Adelman did not want to be drawn into a debate between the statements by McGrady and the medical staff.

DD- Just as we disagree about Scola, we disagree about this. There is no way you can tell me the knee will get stronger by strictly playing. He needs to rehab the knee to a certain level, then play on it to finish it off. The thing is, why do people want him to be a huge liabilty that he is on defense right now and be basically a spot shooter? Then you bring up other player getting hurt trying to shoulder the load, well isn't that whatstheyre suppose to do? Yao makes max, battier makes good money and artest is all star quality. I mean I've heard a million times how battier can do more offensively, we here's his chance. People talk how rafer is this, scola is that, well step up.

"mild" surprise. like i said, "mild" is nothing to to get shocked over something about.

and dr. andrews actually agrees with tracy that he needed time off.

    that was a "joke" dude.

this is adelman's feelings towards tracy's being out.

“All I is know is when he does go on the court, he’s got to be able to push himself and go through it. And if he can’t do that, then it’s best for him not to play until he feels comfortable doing that.

“It’s how he feels, what the medical people say, and obviously they feel he needs to rehabilitate it a little bit more and see how he is when he comes back. Whichever gets him on the court and makes him healthier is what we need to do.”

which is basically what i said my friend.

Did you miss the part about "Adelman did not want to be drawn into a medical dispute..."? What's Adelman supposed to say? He's basically keeping out of it.

Mild enough that they issued a press release to the media stating that T-Mac would take a week off before seeing limited minutes.

Then T-Mac comes along and torpedoes that press release and the Rockets. If he was planning on taking three weeks off maybe he should have told the Rockets so that they never issued that press release in the first place?

but he agrees that the ultimate goal is to get the healthiest tracy out there. not one in limited minutes and spot up jumper and struggling to play defense.

    get that?

So what happens when he comes back and is still crying (which he will be)?

Tracy is a constant drama queen. Even when he was healthy he was always whining.

    Leeb,

If all he did was stand at the 3pt line and be a shooter/ball mover, it would help the team more than Luther Head.

But, if Tmac feels he can't go, and nothing will convince me that this is more than Tmac himself.....then fine....sit.

But I am still going to believe he is a baby for doing it, and not following the doctors orders to play....

I think it all comes down to what happens this season. He knows it, we know it.

he came back last yr and didn't whine one bit (even when he's still injured).

i expect him to come back just fine. why? it's all about the knee healing. if it's healed, he should be fine. there's nothing wrong that with knee, no need for anymore surgery.
