Well, T-Mac has actually been missing more of these than usual. Last year and the previous years teams would over play the pick because he was so deadly. This year, teams are almost content to go behind the pick because he isnt as good at hitting it, and with Adelman's offense if they overplay they will get burned backdoor.

oh come on, he's been hittin them this year also very very well.

that's the best thing to get him going offensivly, the rockets usually start with that play

because he is one. you can say all the improvements about the role players, but he's winning with the least amount of talent (since yao has been out) than any other star in the league.

look at lebron with more offensive talent and the cavs have struggled.
look at kobe without gasol (mediocre)
    look at wade this yr
look at melo and iverson with much more talent
look at the nets with vince and rj

tmac's impact is beyond the stats right now. he simply makes plays. you think if you replaced melo or iverson on the nuggets right now that the nugs won't be a top 2-3 team in the west? you put tmac on the lakeres right now and they wouldn't have a great chance to go to the finals? you put him on the nets and they wouldn't be a top 4 seed in the east?

if kobe was on this team right now (and you take yao out), we wouldn't go 15-5. no way no how. kobe will obviously put up the better statlines, but we just won't win at this rate if he was in charge.

it's simple. i bet you may think carmelo or iverson or guys like that are better (statistically they are), but look at the impact they make on a game. tmac will make an impact if his scoring is off. who else does that besides lebron? or maybe kobe. tell me right now.

like i said, you guys are all judging him on his scoring and things like that. he's not the best scorer anymore like he was a few years ago (i'm sure he'll turn it on in the playoffs though). he has now transformed into the best playmaker at the scoring position in the league.

his defense is not consistent, but who does he guard? if you put kobe on the scrubs, his defense is just as atrocious (go watch any laker game). when thornton went at him, tmac responded. most of the guys tmac guard do not do that so he cheats and plays shadowing defense... put him on good players (as he will be in the playoffs) and he'll respond.

PS - tmac was our best individual defender last yr v. the jazz as JVG simply removed battier from harpring and put tmac on him a lot.

again, tmac right now makes enough plays for us to win. he's not going to play like this in the playoffs. you guys should know that. who the hell really thinks he's going to put up only 22 pts a game in the playoffs?

but even this tmac is still a better player that carmelo, iverson, paul pierce, gilbert arenas, vince carter... if you give tmac a butler and jamison in the east? c'mon now, they would be in the finals. you give him the talent of the nuggets, and you'd think they're in the 8th place?

he's below kobe and lebron, but so what? who isn't.

be happy that we have tmac. 15-5 record without yao??? c'mon now.

I´ll tell you this, it is just a lousy argument to go on what if´s i don´t know how this team would be with lebron or kobe, or anyone instead of T-Mac, but in the playoffs he must raise his FG% no matter what, right now the team OVERALL is averaging a better FG% than T-Mac, this means that if T-Mac takes more shots and continues shooting at .425 (his actual shooting %) then the team will regress in their shooting %.
If you look at the primary shot takers in the league (which T-Mac is third at) only 3 (of the Top 50 shot takers) shot below .425 (Arenas at .400, Stephen Jackson at .406 and Jamal Crawford at .406) Durant is tied with T-mac at .425. If you go up to Top 50-100 only 10 players shot below T-Mac percentages. (Rafer Alston at .397, Raymond Felton at .408, Mike Bibby .417, Larry Hughes .382, Jamaal Tinsley .380, Tim Thomas .421, Stephon Marbury .419, Kirk Hinrich .415, Randy Foye .409, and Nate Robinson .422)

As you can see no big names are shooting as bad as him, so i think is fair for us to expect him to raise his % by a huge margin in the PO.

no doubt about that. i expect his scoring #s to go way up in teh playoffs, along with his fg%. we won't go far with him shooting around the 40% mark. but i'm not worried about him in teh playoffs. he ALWAYS shows up in the playoffs on both ends of the floor. i don't know what the argument is about that. tmac has almost always delivered in the playoffs in terms of scoring, intensity, playmaking, defense...

the thing we should worry about is what the hell are the role players going to do in the playoffs. they literally SUCKED last year (which came out of nowhere b/c luther and battier played well in the reg. season and they disappeared). rafer and howard were probably predictable. but will the role players show up this year? will they be able to do something with the ball when teams double tracy way out to the 3pt line like the past 3 teams have done? will they be able to knock down the open 3s?

i don't know why people are worried about tracy. as "average" as tracy played last yr (which still put up 25, 5, 7), we would have won pretty easily in 6 if the role players showed up (or 2 of them consistently).

tracy can become jordan and we can still lose if the role players played like last yr.

therefore, the question shouldn't be will tracy step up, it should be will the role players step up?

you make really good points. It seems that people on here think that is golf or tennis. tmac would have been out of the first round against dallas had the role players showed up for that game 7. The samething happend last year when head and battier played Casper and didn't show up last year.

I wonder why people are so hard on tmac anyway, grant hill has never been out of the first round his whole career and KG has only been out 1 time his whole career. Houston fans are like a light switch, one minute you are on then the next you are off. If you read other forums we are always being laughed at because we are on and off again fans, and i really see why we are laughed at.

some may disagree with me but to me theres nothing you get out of the 2nd that you dont out of the first...ultimately it comes down to going to the finals or winning a championship. So the BS about TMAC not getting out of the first round should never even be brought up, has anyone seen the numbers he puts up?!?! The guy is a monster during the playoffs but i dont wanna jinx him :p

All the hate on tmac not getting out of the first round stems from what he said against the pistons in the first round of the 2003 playoffs. IMO, it's all been bad karma from then on. Hopefully the basketball gods have forgiven him and lets him out of this curse.

Why, because Im right and you're not? If you don't think T-mac is more mature, you're naive.

tmac i believe will give you 3 wins in a playoff series. that other elusive playoff game will be done by the role players. tmac will struggle (as will EVERY player in this league) for 1-2 games in this series b/c he just will. lebron struggled in game 6 v. the pistons scoring only 13 pts but gibson stepped up big. we will need that type of performance from our role players if we want to advance.

tmac has played well enough to deserve several playoff wins. it's not his fault that he hasn't advanced. he has played individually better than kobe, wade, pierce, vince carter... and guys like that who have advanced.

if you look at the stats of kobe since he's been the main guy, his playoff #s are not as good as tracy's. those guys have had good teams. when they have off games in the playoffs, the team has been able to pick them up.

it's a given tracy will struggle to dominate 1-2 playoff games. but he'll dominate enough to give us 3 wins (i think we'll go to 7 games at least whoever we play). if our role players step up REAL BIG for 1-2 games that he struggles in, we'll be good to go. (liek gibson did for lebron with 30+ pts)

just a heads up, every team that tracy has been on (in his playoff losses), have gone to the MAXIMUM (5 games v. bucks and charlotte when it was 5 games, and 7 games for dallas and utah and pistons).

that's how good he has been. he's basically been a one-man show his entire career and has taken much better and deeper teams to the maximum amount of games there is.

like i said, he just needs others to step up BIG for one game. like how they should have stepped up one that one road game last yr and we would have wrapped up the series in 6. we cannot expect tracy to go out there and dominate EVERY SINGLE PLAYOFF GAME (nobody can do that).

    Totally agree.

Just look at last year's series. Yao, Tracy maybe weren't at their best but damn did we get any help from Rafer, and hell from bench? NO

Thats problem, T-mac is the most underrated playoff player. But he will remain one if he stays in first round.

Last year, he has been carrying us to game seven, our bench nor other players did anything. They just watched.

This year is different, I hope we can finally pass the first round.

    My position is this:

    - We will end up with a few more wins this season than last.
    - Yao missed MORE games last season than this season.
    - T-Mac has missed more this season. (15 so far, 8-7 record).
    - So with Yao playing more and Tracy less, the etam has a few more wins.

Am I saying Yao is less important? Absolutely not. The improvement in this team can't be shown in our record because I beleive we were still adjusting for 20-30 games.

However, T-mac was great in those 20-30 games and barely decent afterwards. He was better in games without Yao last season than he was this season. What hides this is that he had a few jaw-dropping games, but many many many more stinkers this season.

What worries me is that people think that you will lose in EFFICIENCY and Totals if you try to make your team better. This is absolutely false.

    Here are my key views:

    - T-Mac is not using his teammates better. The change is from having teammates that are better at using him and a system which suits that.
    - T-Mac has never had a problem as a Rocket being a good teammate. This trait has just been minimized or maximized based on the quality of his team.
    - Tracy McGrady can and should be able to do everything he is currently doing plus be a better contributor to some portion of points, rebounds, assists, etc.
    - Tracy McGrady is at a career low in terms of efficiency. No matter what he is doing, achieving a drop in every major statistical category is significant. No matter how much you hate statistics, a drop in every major statistical category (efficiency + totals) is not good.
    - The fans of this team have dropped their standards and will allow T-Mac to be Antoine Walker.

Based on those views, I am of the opinion that Tracy McGrady still owes this team a lot of production this season. I also think that whether we are ousted or progress, if he takes his current production into the playoffs, we would need to review his value to the team. This is not about how the team would do without T-Mac (injured or cut from the team). As always, you benchmark against other players in similar situations, and assess the marginal difference in effectiveness.

I am also first and foremost a Rockets fan. Winning in the playoffs is most important to me. But in being a Rockets fan, I also have my eye on whether or not T-Mac has done his fair share in whatever progress we make. At 19M and superstar status, he is doing part of his job, and still has time to make up for it...

.. But like a student rushing to make a deadline, T-Mac is running out of time, and has to put on a stunning performance to show his true current value.

I beleive he will make it.

If you believe he'll make it, why is this post made in the first place? You're trying to state your insane critcism without being flamed by others, its not working. If you're gonna criticize t-mac, then do so. Don't post things like t-mac is not doing this team any favors and magette can replace him. Then say he'll get his numbers back up.

Let me ask you a question. What sounds better to you, individual basketball or team basketball. If u choose individual basketball, then.... stop. If u choose team basketball, would you want to see your super star scoring less and having to do less work, but still come out with a win. Or do you want your superstar get 30/7/7 just to win a game?

    Think about that.

This should really end the discussion IMO. If and when we get the results we want, (on a petty level, getting out of the first round, and on the penultimate level, winning the championship), who's to say that T-Mac didn't do his job?

T-mac was brought in TO HELP THE TEAM WIN, not to maintain his "superstar stat line" or "efficiency" as you put it. Heck, they guy's helping the team win. What's the big fuss then? Are we feeling cheated that he's not putting up enough numbers based on his salary? Well, I think that's a lousy way to look at it. We're not the guys paying his salary, Les Alexander is.

Sure we can demand all we want from T-mac, but ultimately, it's about THE ROCKETS. The only time I considered a player to be equal to the whole welfare of the Rockets was Hakeem, and we all know that was a different case.

All this number crunching and statistical analysis holds up, that's true. But in true Houston fashion, looking at GM Daryl Morey, IT'S NOT ALL ABOUT THE STATS. Based on stats, who would have thought that Aaron Brooks or Carl Landry would be worthy draft picks for the Rockets?

We are in the midst of a great playoff run here. Until the Toyota Center's doors close for good this season, let's enjoy it. The Rockets are winning, and we can hope for a repeat of history, going into the playoffs as a relative low seed.

This is a good point. If you look at it from Utah's perspective last year, they dont win game 7 without big contributions from Kirelenko, Okur, and Harpring. I mean, Boozer played a whale of a series, but he could not do it all.

And we were always down before the third quarter at home (If im right). We always won by a comeback. And how? We saw a lot of clutch performances from t-mac. And basically the teammates were feeding off of him (as in t-mac passing the ball to his teammates).

But game 7, there is only so much a man can do. The rocket can't expect to make a comeback each game, and t-mac is bound to get tired. The problem with the rockets is that, if t-mac rest, the rockets have no offense.
