Is that a good thing? Think about it. I actually think 81 can be repeated or surpassed in the near future with players like Carmelo, Lebron, Wade, Jennings, Evans, heck even Curry. Didn't Andre Miller just drop 50 +? Andre Miller? Who has even gotten close to T-Mac's performance since it happened? I am by no means a TOF at all but when you weigh out everything that happened in T-Mac's performance... The Spurs had the best D in the game at that moment AND the best defender.. Tracy was guarded on EACH and EVERY one of his attempts down the stretch... In fact, there should've been two "four point" plays.
Agreed. Although it is debatable whether or not this is considered in the "modern" era, David Robinson's 71 point performance back in 94 is often forgotten. I can only think of the Wilt Chamberlain type era and today's basketball style so I put the Admiral's performance on par with Kobe's. Plus Robinson's PG% was slightly better. Tracy's performance was surreal. I still get goose bumps watching him drain the game winner. That's why it pisses me off so much to see what he has become. Thanks to ignorant fans, Kobe is going to win the stupid vote anyways. Just like a few years ago when he won the dunk of the year contest against tracy's abuse of Shawn Bradley. lol I still contend that's why Bradley called it a career at the seasons in.
Not sure how you can even have an argument of which one will happen before the other. 81 points just involves one player taking a ton of shots....something that isn't out of the ordinary particularly in a high paced offense. To replicate 13 in 35 is almost impossible. That many 3 pointers+ a 4 point play+ a steal a with hardly anytime left when most teams would foul. Everything had to fall into place for what Mcgrady did to occur, and the chances of all those factors falling in place again in a similiar fashion is near impossible.
Kobe's 81 was very impressive......but he was playing the Raptors. Not exactly defensive juggernauts. McGrady was playing one of the top defensive teams in the league at the time...and being guarded by the best one-on one defender. his late game explosion also overcame a piss poor performance by everybody in a Rockets uniform not name Yao Ming (remember only McGrady and Yao had more than 5 points) But this is clutchfans......and McGrady is lucifer around these parts. so....kobe will win out and would probably win on these boards.
Tmac's performance win i dont care what people say. 13 in 30 will not happen again, ever.. no one's that clutch.. not taking anything away from kobe but a lot of players can achieve that if they take enough shots
Exactly the point. The chances of what T-mac's 13 replicated or bested are almost unfathomable and the fact what Kobe did has been done before, while amazing not better.
81 Points is absolutely amazing. But, given the number of shot attemts and free throw attempts, I would bet my life savings that Jordan, Robinson, Hakeem, Shaq, Lebron, Bird, and even TMac in his prime could score 81. None of them, not even Jordan, would I bet on to hit 4 straight 3's and come up with a clutch steal with no time outs to win the game with 33 seconds left. I wouldn't even bet $1.
First, I do not think those two performances should be compared. Still, I think T-Mac's 13 in 33 was one of the most amazing basketball plays of all time. I still can't believe it. Kobe's 81 was not quite as shocking. He put up plenty of 50 and 60 point games. 81 is just a little bit more. If you want to compare something with Kobe's 81, try Wilt's 100.
the Raptors said at halftime they are going to force Kobe to beat them. Well he did. Go back and watch the halftime interview on the court, that is what the coach said.
Exactly what I was thinking. It's the final seconds of the game, that's much more exciting to watch versus 81 points spread out in 48 minutes + free throws.
You guys saying McGrady's is more impressive are just flat out crazy. I don't care for either player at this point, but 81 points wins every time.
13 points in 35 seconds gets my vote, no doubt about it. That was just simply amazing to watch in the final stretch of the game, at that point where I just refused to believe we actually won the game against the Spurs. And also, in my opinion, it's hard to replicate given the same circumstance, if you found your team down 13, then all of sudden you expect all of your shots from behind the 3pt line to go in, that's just crazy.
