Lebron was just in China a few weeks ago and he did not get nearly as much attention as T-Mac received. I guess play with Yao does help with T-Mac's popularity in Asia quite a bit. Lots of TV stations in China carry most of Rockets games during the regular season.

    Thanks for the pics.
And I think most of the basketball fans in China come from middle class and up..don't know though. Just guessing.

Oh yeah.......roughly 21 hours of flying not counting the time in between flights

3-1/2 hours plus from Houston to Los Angeles
14 hours plus from Los Angeles to Hong Kong
3 hours plus from Hong Kong to Beijing

I can say from experience that is one looooooooong freakin' flight but I'm sure T-Mac flew first class and not economy...LOL

You need a TV set to watch the NBA games and I think you are considered to be middle class in China if you have a TV set in your home.

I just came back from Shanghai.... an average 30 years old young department manager who can speak English in my company (multi-national) can earn USD25k/year and is still going up 10%+ yearly..... and there are quite some USD100K+/year local managers under 40!

You guys really need to know a bit more about China nowadays....

In Shanghai, middle class has a car and a maid at home......and TV set is not a luxury item anywhere in China!

    :D :D :D

Pretty much 80+% family in China have TVs (costing about $100).

Last time I went back to China, almost every middle class family has
a 40+ inch plasma or LCD TV (costing about $1000 in China).

Labor is cheap. With $5000 yearly income, you can hire a family maid
    (costing about $1000/yr).

Last Xmas, I went to Beijing to visit my father. When I entered his home, the very first thing I noticed is a flat screen HDTV. My jaw just dropped. My dad is a retired professor, living on pensions. I told him HDTV is not that common even in the middle class families in the US. I have two cousins in Beijing. Both of them have cars. One is driving Honda Accord (I make over $80,000 here but drive a Civic), and he paid almost doubled price for an Accord here.

NBA sensation Tracy McGrady of the Houston Rockets has arrived in Beijing to start his three-day tour of China.

The 25-year old guard is scheduled to attend a series of promotional activities hosted by Adidas in the capital city.

He will also coach young players during the finals of the Adidas Beijing Street Basketball Matches.

The China tour will also take the NBA star to the hometown of his teammate Yao Ming.

McGrady will head for Shanghai on the 30th where he will share his basketball ideas and skills with young Chinese enthusiasts.

Since Adidas is taking over Reebok-wouldn't it be possible now for Yao and T-Mac to star in the same commercial ? Or are they going to keep the companies separate even with the merger ?
    Just wondering...

They market 200 dollar sneakers to kids on welfare, I don't think they'd blink an eye at marketing to peasants who barely make $100 USD per month

Bron's had some negative press in China from those cheesy Nike Kung Fu anime commercials. Most of us didn't hear about it, but the guy felt compelled (probably by his marketing people) to release an apology for those commercials. For those of you who missed it, it came out to something like

"Please don't hate me, I'm just a tool, please continue to buy my shoes, drinks, tshirts, underwear, socks, gum, and whatever other **** they ut my face on in the future."
