Does anyone have any idea when or for how much the allstar game tickets will be for sale?? How much does going to the whole weekend cost?? I had no idea and am hoping somebody knows.
$500 to $2000 for the AS game itself... http://www.national-events.com/EventDetails.asp?Event_ID=583 Sponsored links are your friend.
I was thinking about this the other day. Who determines if McGrady is listed as a forward or guard on the ballot? Considering that Lebron went in as a guard and Amare as a forward, I think it may be determined by what position the player is listed as in the team media guide. I hope the Rockets marketing office doesn't drop the ball on this one and forget to list their guy as a guard, robbing him of a starting spot in the year the game is in his own house. I have a tough time seeing him legitimately beating out KG and Duncan.
You have to be kidding. Did you see what I saw? Here's Vinsanity http://s5.yousendit.com/d.aspx?id=1IHE1WTB6DXCQ3IA8X4XKA6VZQ Francis was third by a long shot
I don't. Because he's a better player and more exciting than both. Besides, he started last year. Why would he not start in Houston?
Wow, allstars games!! I am really getting excited even though it is still far behind. I cant wait the "Yao-Mac" show
Last year's top 10 all star vote-getters. Player (Team) Votes 1. Yao Ming (Hou) 2,558,278 2. Shaquille O'Neal (Mia) 2,488,089 3. Kevin Garnett (Min) 2,087,200 4. Tracy McGrady (Hou) 1,993,687 5. Kobe Bryant (LAL) 1,815,952 7. Tim Duncan (SA) 1,812,522 6. Vince Carter (NJ) 1,803,529 8. LeBron James (Cle) 1,661,204 9. Allen Iverson (Phi) 1,590,400 10. Grant Hill (Orl) 1,497,489 So if T-Mac were to listed as a forward last year, he would have beat out Duncan for the starting spot for the Western Conference team.
First off, how is Tim duncan 7th on any list of top players? Second, am I missing something. My memory of Frances in the dunk contest was he and Cat showing they did not know how to pass, even when unguarded?
no because it's not like you vote from the entire group of nba players as one set. tmac's only real competition at guard in terms of popularity in the west is bryant. guys like amare (listed as a forward) and dirk stole some votes from duncan and garnett. also keep in mind that almost every west team has an eligible forward that their locals would vote for (gasol, randolph, brand, kirilenko, boozer, marion, martin, odom, peja, rashard lewis) and then the other vote would be one of mcgrady, duncan, or garnett. at guard, with bryant's recent decline in popularity, mcgrady is the default choice alongside the local guard. if they don't list him as a guard, he won't start next year.
Your point is well taken cabbage. T-Mac would have more votes if he was a guard, however he will start next year whether he's a 1, 2, 3, or 4. A lot of Yao's supporters will vote for T-Mac. He was voted a starter his first year in Houston. He'll have a better year next year and he will only improve his status as a Rocket in his second year.
I agree, the Chinese vote is going to carry him. Also, he is probably going to be listed as a 2 because essentially, if we get a swingman, then TMac is going to play the 2 primarly offensively and the 3 primarily defensively.
You've got a point. But you just don't know that T-Mac is very popular in China now, much more so than the Garnetts, Duncans and Stoudamires of the league. I have no doubt T-Mac will get more votes than Duncan and Garnett even if he's listed as a forward.
he finished second to the performance by which pretty much all other performances are now judged by. hardly robbed. i'm pretty sure that was the second time. the first one he was in, he did very well. and why do some of y'all think the chinese vote will magically carry tmac now even though tmac was on yao's team last year? someone even said swift might make the team. lol. uhh, did mobley make it riding the chinese vote? no. as the YOF's loved to point out, that year that yao barely edged shaq, he actually won the arena vote and lost the internet vote, so apparently the chinese vote isn't that huge. as thacabbage pointed out, tmac would have more forward competition than guard competition. he might still be able to edge the others out, but it's not like he's just gonna soar in the voting due to something that should have already been helping him this year. i really hope tmac is listed as a guard, and not just because it would make it easier to win. even if he's a forward and gets in, that means kg and duncan won't. and that would suck b/c it would break up the west's vaunted kobe/tmac/kg/duncan/yao starting lineup that could possibly be the starting lineup for a good 5 or 6 more years. it would be pretty cool to see the same 5 make it every year.
I'm kinda confused on the 2nd part your question, but why do some think the chinese vote will help TMac? Because it did last season, and it helped Francis make the all-star when he was on the Rox, even when he had his worst year statistically under JVG. There is no way Francis would have started his last season w/ the Rockets unless the Chinese vote was there. The Chinese vote will always vote for TMac and Yao. We vote for our favorite players that just happen to be on our team, and for China, their favorite team is the Rockets. I agree that Swift won't make it, that's an easy one. But to say the chinese vote isn't that huge is just plain wrong. You may have forgotten that Yao shattered the all-time vote getter last season. Also, Yao came in his rookie year to kick Shaq out of the starting lineup and continued to until Shaq went East. That would never have happened if the Chinese vote didn't count, period.
