Finally back home. What were the best bands you saw throughout the week?

For me it was either Future Islands or Sam Smith. It seemed everyone was talking about both these artists after their early performances. Also enjoyed Vancouver Sleep Clinic. I left the Soundgarden rooftop show after 20 minutes to catch the Mark Kozelek show at Central Presbyterian Church. Koz is always awesome.

One thing that has started bugging me is the bigger name artists who show up at this festival. The WSJ makes a good point in this article.

I don't mind the bigger name artists musically, but them showing up really clog up some venues and add massive crowds to places. I think SXSW should remain a place for new talent to showcase their music. Not for established bands like Coldplay or Lady Gaga to establish some indie cred.

A 4th is still in a medically induced coma.

You are omitting the biggest part of the story. He was fleeing the police. That's what brought him to Red River st. I don't think you can say his intention was to kill those people. It was a consequence of his intention to get away from the police. Some ppl on Reddit feel like there are other ways to rope him into capital. Time will tell. I don't think the state should be able to put anyone to death. That doesn't mean I wouldn't like to see someone beat the **** out of him or run him over.

I didn't even realize Lindsey Stirling was here. How long was her set? Must've been a great show.

It was about a half hour at Perez's event at the Austin Music Hall. It was extremely impressive. She has so much grace and such a crazy energy.

Did they play material mostly from their upcoming album? The tracks I've heard from this new one so far seems like they are trying to recreate the sounds from their early works. That is a good thing imo.

Yes. The new songs actually sound more modern yet simple .

    That magic song is good.

Besides them, I saw some newer groups or groups that weren't known in the United States.

    Temples was good
