im interested in that side too - my friend is actually one of the dudes who runs the whole thing, so ive gotten a pretty good idea of how it works over the years and all the work that goes into it. i judged submissions for a few years - that was an interesting experience - i was one of the people who had to filter out all the crap before it got to the decision-makers. some awful, awful stuff. some of it was so bad/weird that i pushed for them to get in, but it never happened. there was one band called 'sabres and roses' that was a group of civil war re-enacters who did this really awful southern-rock - all their songs were about the civil war - i really wanted to see that show. there was another band called 'the tim heidecker masterpiece' - they dressed all medieval-style and the entire album about this D&D concept album - i loved it, but again, they didnt get in - and this ended up being tim from 'tim and eric'.
Since SXSW is right around the corner and the schedules are out, I figured we should resurrect this thread. I've got a wristband for the first time so I'm really hoping I can make it into the Queens of the Stone Age showcase at La Zona Rosa on 3/16. Who's on your list?
Get there early if you want even a glimmer of hope to get in. I'm hoping to make the Strokes on Thursday night at Auditorium shores. Other than that, I probably won't make it for anything else. I'd go back there Friday if it weren't for the stench of Blue October. People seriously still like them?
landlord -- i can't seem to find where or when and so i watch you from afar is playing. this is the only band i have been listening to lately, i sure hope. linky helpy?
also, i will be working an electro party for hype machine all week, lose control 3 at club vice. come on over and look for the blond kid with an nba jersey on, and all CF's would be welcome to share a drink and a moment with yours truly. otherwise, see you pig f**kers at wu tang!
dang...looks like backed out. they played at Baileys last year. They have dates in the UK next week...so I doubt they are playing this year.
saw Paul and The Greatest Movie ever Sold today I liked Greatest Movie ever sold more than Super Size me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zz9hRZS4rz4 Paul was ok, entertaining, lots of sci-fi jokes
I saw This Will Destroy You and DJ Premier. Both were great shows. I'm probably chilling until tomorrow, then it's on!
really hoping to get into the dickies/filter show on fri... fresh and onlys, dum dum girls, noah and the whale, GAYNGS, black lips, little dragon
I will be avoiding all the big wristband shows and attending the small fun shows while drinking a lot of free beer.
For what it's worth, iTunes has a sampler of 23 songs from SXSW artists absolutely free. If you bring up iTunes, there is a link kind of in the middle of the home screen.
I saw The Civil Wars tonight in front of a crowd of maybe 50 people at the IFC Crossroads House. They were amazing! It was my favorite show so far. Then I checked my twitter and heard that Foo Fighters were playing at Stubb's. Sure enough they were, but it was badges only Oh well.....can't catch 'em all.
