Yep, got it ... I like it so far. I read something about almost all of the songs being b-sides - do you know if that's true? I guess I'm not going, since I don't have a wristband. I thought you could buy tickets for individual shows, but that doesn't seem like the case going by this thread. I think I'm going to put all my energy into trying to get a ticket to see them open for The Darkness instead - know anyone looking to get rid of some tickets?
Their show with the darkness has been moved to verizon wireless theater, so their should be tons of ticks out there. As far as the sxsw shows you can get in... you have to show up early...(1 hr to 1.5)
Actually I was talking about the Austin Darkness/Wildhearts show - it got moved to Stubb's, but still sold out in 7 minutes. I may try to go to Emo's, if I don't have to work.
I wanna give some props to some boys I go to school with here in Conway, AR at the University of Central Arkansas that are playing at SXSW...The band is called Singleminded and they put on a good show. If you get the chance to see them, definitely give it a try..
Holy crap, is the guy in the photo Mike Watt? He's really greyed in the past few years. Deji's photo was from a late 90s Bass Player. Not sure if it's really more recent than the one from KD's.
That's Watt. He's had some health issues the last few years, but he's 100% now. Saw him last May and he was lookin' spry, young, tanned, clean-shaven. Wish I could say the same for the B3 player he was with.
Btw Weez....you should check out The Yo-Yo's. Side project of one of the members of the Wildhearts. You should love it, going by what I see you post here.
The Wildhearts were amazing. Ginger was his usual badass self. The funny thing is they didn't play any of the EARTH VS. stuff. So my friend decided to write TV TAN on their set list. The roadie didn't like it. Anyways, the show rocked our collective ass' off. On the same note, there is no justice in this world. I say this because a band like The Hives (that crappy garage band where they wear suits and the singer thinks he's Mick from The Stones) drew 6x more people than The Wildhearts. O well we are after all living in a Strokes world these days. Image is worth more than musicianship and a hook these days. The American 'music' landscape is so messed up it's sad. What happened to those bands that put out 5-star records year after year. Their gone. Now you have 'bands' put out over-produced, over-hyped, slick, single heavy albums. What the US music scene needs is a no nonsense band to come out and just rock and rip *hit up, ala G n' R (appetite for destruction circa. 1987). I think The Wildhearts are tha band def. capable of doing this. So people who do not know about them, go pick up their album or download their songs. Pick up EARTH vs. The Wildhearts. It's like Motorhead meets the Ramones. !http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/B000002JRD/qid=1080951828/sr=8-2/ref=sr_8_xs_ap_i2_xgl15/002-9445478-9242440?v=glance&s=music&n=507846 Btw, their opening for The Darkness (4/11), which is sad, but in this Urban Outifitter dominated hipster pop culture, what more can you expect?! Ok, i'll get off of my soap box now. Some other cool bands I got to see we're The Ends, Riverboat Gamblers, Pink Swords, Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. I did see a boat load of rock royalty and celebs. I got to hang out and chat with the Von Blondies. I saw Keith Richards and on a lesser but equally cool note, Michael Monroe of Hanoi Rocks! 99 bottles of beer and a new tattoo later, I'm sad that it all had to end. Go rockets!
Weez, you're pretty cool ... I can't believe someone else here knows who Michael Monroe is. What do you mean by Ginger being his 'usual badass self' ... ? I don't think they've ever toured the US before ... have you seen them someplace else? Just found out from MetalSludge that Sanctuary Records is going to release ANOTHER Wildhearts album in the US in June, The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed ... this album includes the amazing "Vanilla Radio" (first single!). I think Sanctuary actually qualifies as a major label. Several of their artists have gotten rock radio airplay. Look out!
Btw Weez ... are you familiar with some of their other tunes like "29 x the Pain", "I Wanna Go Where the People Go", "Just in Lust", "Nita Nitro", "Sick of Drugs", etc. ? You need to pickup "Uppers and Downers" from The Yo-Yo's, btw.
