If smarts was all it took to win BB games, then let's sign up 5 mensa members. We've got plenty of smarts on the floor with TMac and Yao and Wesley. We need athelticism.
At the beginning of the season I said we needed a rebounder to go along with Yao. But with Yao being a force on the boards lately, Stro's game is much more complimentary than Juwan's. Speed, length, and energy looks good next to Yao. If Yao and Stro can keep it up, we've got a frontcourt of the future. That's a big if on Stro's part, though.
It depends. If Stro is playing with fire and intensity (and some clue as to what is happening on the court) of course he should be out there. On the other hand, in the 80% of games where that is not happening, I would rather see Juwan. Somehow, it would be nice to get a more consistant effort from Swift.
There was no dumber player in the league than Rashweed until he got to a good team and started playing with smarter players.
string me a few games together like that, and then i'll judge stro. I'm hard on stro than any other member of the Rockets. When we signed him, I was excited because he could be the guy to make up for Yao's inability to get some rebounds, and help on D.
I've been waiting for the dude to return, I'm a huge supporter of Stro. He's one of those guys that makes the games more entertaining. I like going BOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOM SLAM SLAM SLAM SLAM SLAM SLAM ON [insert name]
I agree with alot of what you are saying Verse, but I think Les Alexander pays JVG for the W's though. This is one of the reasons why I believe JVG would make a great high school or college coach. Even Bill Worrell and Clyde said you win with talent in this league and I think chemistry should be part of the equation as well. I think Stro should start hands down no matter what his basketball I.Q is, JVG needs to surround a slow footed center like Yao with as many good athletes as possible.
Heh, good job. I didn't feel like doing it last night, I felt lazy after my shift at the hospital. I just laid in bed watching.
Gradually give Swift a bigger role within the rotation. I only voted "Start Howard" because Howard stinks off of the bench but does need to play less. If I were calling the shots I would still start Howard but play him roughly 20-25 minutes, depending upon the matchup and how well he was playing, then have Swift pick up the remaining minutes. If Swift proves to be more efficient and effective over the span of a few games then maybe you consider starting Swift and FINALLY seeing a different line-up out there.
swift is a backup. but so is jho. the thing is jho seems to be more productive as a starter than a bench guy. whereas stro might be reasonably productive as a backup.
I don't think either Juwan Howard or Swift is really an answer for us at pf. Swift plays with better intensity but I think we still need him to play smarter. Juwan howard in last night's game really showed some smart passing and getting the other players the ball at the right time. The problem is he is aging and I guess it was never in his nature to be the mean intense player. Switching at this moment as to who starts at pf really does not seem to be a smart idea. As someone stated, Juwan isn't exactly that effective coming off the bench. We are also not sure as to how Swift will perform starting especially just coming off an injury. Let's not mess with the pf rotation as of yet and worry about it during the offseason or when we are completely out of the playoff race.
I think at this time Howard is a better option. But for the future of the team, we should play Swift so he can start gelling with the rest of the starting team.
Stros got to bring the intensity when Tmac and Yao are both on the floor. yeah, i like Stors to start at 4!!
All this JUNK about Howard isn't good off the bench is just GARBAGE. How can you be a different player off the bench then you are when you start the game if you are really any good at all?????? What if I said, Stro isn't any good off the bench, he's a much better player when he starts? Some of you guys would go off about that and how you've got to earn the starter's spot. Well, if Juwan isn't good off the bench, how in the world did he ever earn the starter's spot? I wish you guys would quit offering up that LAME excuse trying to justify having Juwan start games. It's just pure garbage. Think about it. If you are good as a starter, wouldn't you be that much better as the first man off the bench, playing with the starters against the other team's starters after they've been running up and down for 10 minutes and are tired? Or wouldn't you be just as effective if not more so, going up against the opponent's second unit guy???? If you say, well Juwan's old and he needs time to get warmed up. Then I'm gonna say, warm up during warm ups before the game, not during the first 10 minutes of the game. Go ride the bike and break out a sweat from the bench or go get on the stairmaster, do something. But don't warm up by starting the game. Lame Lame Lame. Get it out of here.
