It's called background. Candidates talk about humble beginnings and their parents all the time. Kerry has every right to talk about his heroic service. I have no doubt that the experience helped mold him, and make him who he is today. It doesn't seem odd to me that going into combat, killing men, saving other men's lives, and losing friends to the enemy wouldn't change lives or help form who they become later. In a time when our nation is involved in a war on terror, a man who served, and fought in a war, and actually experienced combat might highlight that experience seems only normal to me. If others can't see the connection perhaps they should look a little harder. Or maybe I'm wrong to think wartime experience matters in a time of war. His service, however, was talked about extensively, but it is not part of the platform adopted at the DNC.
Seems like that's the last time I heard anything from Kerry. He's really not doing a good job of getting his "message" out.
Yeah, the performance where he allowed himself to be manipulated by an agent of a hostile government into starting a war.
HE DOESN'T BRING UP BUSH'S SERVICE!!! The only time Kerry has mentioned Bush's service recently, it has been to say that Bush served honorably. You need to stop lying.
First of all, it wasn't a "couple," it was EVERY SINGLE man that is still alive and served with Kerry on his boat. To a man, they all stood up for Kerry because they believe in him, as did many of the Swiftvets before they started spouting their lies.
More garbage from a bunch of liars. T_J don't you have an economics paper that's past due? http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?s=&threadid=83822
The question was: When's the last time Kerry has mentioned Vietman in a speech? How the hell does any discusiion of Bush's national guard service (which is being played out almost 100% in the media) answer that question?
WHAT AN AD!!!!! http://www.swiftvets.com Kerry is caught in a string of lies, then proudly declares that he is PROUD of throwing his 'symbols' away. This is powerful.
Ribbons....ribbons...symbols...ribbons...proud...medals.... I'm the first to admit that I don't know 100% what is going on, but I have kept up somewhat, and that ad makes absolutely no sense to me.
John Kerry is PROUD, to this day, of rejecting American symbols. How can America's leader renounce America's symbols? That, friend, is the difference.
Jr has said that he is proud of his guard service! Proud that he lost his flying status. Proud that he didn't take a physical. Proud that he went AWOL for half a year! Proud that his daddy's friends got him special treatment. How can America's leader be proud of such a record?
How can you garner anything from that ad though?? You have no idea what he's talking about to whom and about what. They have literally clipped the word "ribbons" and "symbols" and "medals" and repeated them a few times and then, that's the ad. I still don't get how it says anything. Maybe it's the music??
The point of the ads is that John Kerry directly contradicts himself when he says "the medals themselves". Then the ad ends with him saying he is proud of what he did. The ad is very clear.
Ok, I watched it again and it still makes no sense. Here's the transcript. Current: "I've been accurate precisely about what took place" Old: "Renounced the symbols" Current: "I threw my ribbons over" Old: "I gave back I can't remember, six" Current: "ribbons" Old: "seven, eight" Current: "and took the ribbons" Old: "nine" Current: "I didn't have my medals" Old: "and that was the medals themselves" Current: "that is absolutely incorrect" Current: "medals, ribbons" Current: "we threw away the symbols of what our country gave us and I am proud of that" Ok, as if any of that makes any sense to the average person, then it goes on to say, with a moderator's voice: "John Kerry, can you trust anything he says" Can I trust anything he says about what, ribbons? This ad is completely alien to me?? It's like you have to have watched every other swiftboat ad and read every article to even understand what's going on. Of course, there's a link on that website called "The Real Story", so maybe I have to read that to understand what the hell this ribbon crap is about, but that's stupid. The ad is r****ded.
Yes it is very clear. It is very clearly a smear that has nothing to do with anything that is going on in 2004. Next.
Here is a hint and a half for you T_J, if you have to EXPLAIN the point of the ad, it isn't clear mmmkay?
Judging by the overwhelming polling response to the Swifties' ads, many people are understanding them. Ouch.
You call a high of 30 % an overwhelming response? No wonder you haven't written your little thesis on Kerry's WSJ economic op-ed... You have a real problem with numbers. link
