LMAO. Caller on 610 calls and says he is exited about Swift, but would rather us try to go for Chris Bosh. The guys tell the caller that no way is Bosh available. Caller says "ok well, i would rather have Swift anyways".
Wow. I was not expecting a decision on this so soon. Before Seattle entered the picture, I was confident that Swift would sign with us shortly after SAR had a deal worked out, one because Stro wouldn't have too many options left, and two, because SAR's deal sets the tone. I knew NJ was expecting to come to a decision today, but I had given up on Thorn giving in on the first-rounder, and I wasn't even sure that SAR would decide today. CD deserves a lot of credit, but for those of you praising Swift for taking less money and CD for getting a bargain, I think you really have to consider how much the negotiations were influenced by the amount of SAR's deal and availability of NJ as an option. It's not a coincidence that Swift is taking the same money as SAR. Having said all that, how sweet it is! I do give props to CD, and I'm really glad to get Swift for the MLE.
Eesh...from some of these posts, you'd think we just signed Kevin Garnett with the MLE. Swift's a decent player and a pretty good fit, but still relatively unproven. I'm sure a good number of fans are going to hate him by the end of next season because he's not meeting their lofty expectations.
ESPN who?!! Dude, you get ALL your news from one source and only one source: the greatest website on the net, right here on the Rockets' #1 fansite
FAOS, I just noticed that too! Notice that Chad Ford was the one that broke the NJ/SAR story yet no Ford/Stien etc article on Swift with the Rockets. This just goes to prove that the NBA Insiders a ESPN.com really dont have a good pulse on what the Rockets are doing. They just throw things out there. The ONLY one on ESPN.com that even has a CLUE as to the pulse of the Rockets is Ric Bucher.
OK, which of you wanted to give up our first round draft pick to facillitate a sign and trade so that we could pay more for Swift. NO GM JOB FOR YOU!
I agree. Oneal was a 17 yr old rookie in 1996. He's younger than Kobe. He's going on 27 now and has been in Indy like 4 yrs. Oneal had very good players in front of him whereas swift had Wright. Either way I'm glad to have him.
I don't know about ya'll, but I'm about to bust out my ESPN2k5 and put Swift on the team, maybe DS on it too and see how bad I pound the Spurs. hopefully by 40 points, last time it was only 22.
Wow, JVG + CD are making quite a management tandem. Long ago, I've badmouthed CD for the Posey/Pike/AGriffin summer and for the Ward signing. But lately I just have to say they've been excellent. They identified a realistic PF target (shoot, alot of the BBS called it a pipe dream) and nabbed him for a great price. It's tough to exhibit patience and sometimes Beltran happens, but the gamble can pay off like it did here. Also, the Rocket-Red-Carpet treatment was good apparently. Hopefully, we get lots of championships, and Swift blossoms and gets an excellent payday at the end of it to vindicate his signing here. Good times!
Let's see: Rudy T+ CD = too many bad contracts we still have to deal with JVG + CD = great acquisitions one after the other in less than a year So what has changed? Oh right, JVG. That answers your question as to whom is making all these decisions/taking the team into a new direction. I think Les made a great decision to extend CD's contract, that way he is JVG's puppet and he does whatever JVG tells him to do
DAMN YOU!!! Hahahaha it's all good, we're all on the same team, and now so is Swift! YESSSSSS another dunk on duncan. hahahah
Wow!!! After the initial excitement is settling in, I am stoked!!! 2 years ago, the Rockets let Eddie Griffin go and got nothing. Today the Rockets got Stromile Swift for a MLE. The good thing about Swift is that he doesn't live on the 3-pt line. Swift can block shots. Swift is very athletic. And Swift is relatively young. Swift > Griffin !!!!!!
