Don't expect Rockets.com to have any information, if you can even call it that, about the Swift signing until after Friday when he can be/is officially signed.
Depends on waht you are looking for...are you looking to clear roster space by waiving someone that is basically untradable? or do you want to use the player to trade to a team looking for relief from a long-term contract? Retaining the player only works if there is someone out there that will take your trash...expiring contracts or no. If you need roster space for a player that will actually play, you waive someone that doesnt play and eat their contract until it expires. You dont lose the contracts by waiving...if that was the way it worked, lots of players would be getting waived by their teams when they need to lose albatross contracts... that would be aggregating the TE with a player...which is not allowed. the TE would have to be traded for a player making the same amount..if you wanted to trade a additional player, then you send him over in a seperate deal It would look like a single deal for the other team, but in reality it would be two seperate deals on the Rockets side.

I reported on this earlier when I heard the grumblings on Dallas radio. I'm not sure that folks in Houston realize how much Mark Cuban's arrogance & hubris makes him his own worse enemy. I, for one, was quietly amazed that the Mavericks didn't even sniff at Swift but I'm very glad that Cuban didn't throw $$$ at Swift because that would have made muddied things up considerably especially if Cuban is throwing stupid dollars about. Lucky for the Rockets the FA money pool dried up pretty quickly and they were able to land Swift. Cuban continues to do weird things like trading for Keith Van Horne instead of Nazr Mohammed and that's what keeps holding the Mavs back. From all reports, Finley will be waived on Friday and his buddy Steve Nash is already wooing him to come over & play in AmeriWest Arena. If that happens, I simply can't wait to see Fins & Nash going off on Dallas.

I've been spending quite a bit of time in Dallas and wish I was there this week to hear both 990AM & 1310AM. Cuban is paying the price for the Dampier mistake. He also overpaid in a panic for Marquis Daniels when they let Nash get away. The Mavs strike me as similar to the Grizzlies but with better players. They are very deep; in fact they are almost too deep to develop a good team chemistry with a solid 7-8 man rotation where everyone accepts their role. They are proof that accumulating a lot of pretty good players is not the way to build a championship team (unless you are Detroit with Larry Brown). With Avery in the saddle trying to force defense down their throats, I don't know if it will work. I also think a couple of key players on that team (not just Dampier) don't like Dirk as a leader. About all you can say about the Mavs next season is they will be above average. It is weird not hearing the Mavs in any trade or free agent talk, but you can't do it every year. I don't know where Swift would play on that team except as a backup for Dirk, and after his Memphis experience behind Pau, he may have waived the Mavs off from the beginning. They still have tradeable assets on that team so let's see what happens after August 1st.
Watching those videos of Swift just reminds me what an athletic freak he is! Im not saying he's anywhere near amare, but he does remind me of him in athletic freakiness

Just saw a little clip of Stro on FSN. Looks like he arrived at TC today, and guess what he was wearing? red hat, red shirt, and red pants. What a quick learner
