Juwan Howard would be a good addition to this team. But we already have Mo and Weatherspoon to fill the PF spot. We could slide them over as backup centers, but I don't like the idea of Mo/JHoward at the 5; and what if Yao goes down for any significant period of time? (Hope that's not a self-fulfilling prophecy. Let me change that: YAO will NEVER miss a game!) Still, Howard was coveted by other teams before (inexplicably) signing with Orlando. Maybe he preferred the weather there to Minnesota's? Because the T-wolves were looking to acquire him and used that money instead on Kandi-man. We need a point guard, a backup center, we might need to think a little about the small forward slot. And Howard might play into that. He can be traded now if he's the only player we trade away; otherwise, gotta wait til nearly September.
Orlando was a playoff team the year before Howard signed - the problem was they signed Howard to be the second option, then let all their other role players (like Darrell Armstrong) go. I think the problem with Howard is that teams signed him to be the MAN... he is not, he is a third option. Not a first, not a second. He just happens to have earned franchise player money his whole career (probably why his teams have tanked... him draining all the payroll)
That's a little on the strong side. He's all of those things when compared to MoT but only in a marginal sense. He OK but not the answer at the 4. He's definitely not a starter as he'll be eaten alive by Dirk, KG, Tim and the other PFs but he makes too much money to come off the bench (sound familiar?). Having watched him at Washington, Denver, Dallas and Orlando, I confess that I just don't consider him to be much of an asset and if they can move him for a PG then by all means do it.
Which power forwards don't get eaten alive by Dirk, KG, and Duncan? I think pining for a Brand or Dirk/KG/Duncan quality player may be overkill; T-Mac and Yao fulfill our superstar quotient. And most of the available, cheap lockdown defenders and rebounders can't hit an open jumpshot, which is a necessity for a 4 playing off of Yao (see last year: Cato). Howard is a solid starting power forward in the NBA: not much more, not much less. He has the albatross Bullet/Wizard contract off his neck, and is signed to a reasonable enough deal for a solid starting power forward in the NBA. It's MoT's contract that's inflated. And Tinman: Robert Horry hasn't made a good movie since Six Degrees of Separation (and even that was because of the two superstars on that team: Channing and Sutherland). He made some clutch shots in the playoffs, true, but even he admitted he took the regular seasons off.
We can trade Juwan Howard the Duck to the Bucks for : the Bucks: Toni Kukoc, Brian Skinner. Hornets: Stacy Augman, Tractor Traylor. Mavericks: Travis Best, Scott Williams Spurs: Horry, Kevin Willis
