One aspect of defending a star player is to wear him down on the defensive end, Bowen provide none of that. He is a physical defender, but not a great defender, and sometimes he DOES play dirty to contain his opponents.
Who all has complained about Bowen? Ray Allen Kobe Carter Mobley Peja Anyone I'm missing? Not all of these guys can be wrong. Someone should do the same thing to Bowen.
Finley also called him a dirty, dirty player that tries to hurt players. What he does is when you raise up for a jump shot he puts his legs under you so you fall wrong or come down on his legs. Its very dangerous.!!
If someone could post a video of the Nets vs. Spurs game, I'd appreciate it. I love finding more reasons to despise Bruce Bowen.
Honestly I don't know how many people watch NHL games (I haven't for many years) but in that league, you always have your enforcers, or your "muckers and grinders", who'se role is to play a style that borders on violating the rules to intimidate the other team. The NBA used to be full of guys like that, with Maurice Lucas and Pistons "bad boys" coming to mind. There is something to be said for the effect that occasionally doing something scary can have on the other player as a defensive tactic. Think for instance of the scene in Bull Durham where Kevin Costner tells "meat" to hit the mascot. Also think of Deke and "the elbows". I don't watch Bowen enough to really say, but if he does something dirty just often enough to make opposing players worry about him then it may not be as bad as the criticism from other players would indicate. Also, players tend to complain about defenders that frustrate them however they feel at a particular moment, and so the "cheap shot" deal may just be a way of expressing their frustration with his physical style. Of course, as stated, I don't watch Spurs games much, so he could just be the angel of death so take what I say with a grain of salt.
I dont like how he undercuts guys. But he does wear the player down. He plays physical and his goal is to never let the player get the ball, and if he does the guy is not getting enough space to get the shot off (or make it damn nearimpossible to get one off). If he drives by him he knows his team will pick the dude up and he rotates nicely when that does happen. But if you notice, the players still score but thats after a pick and roll or when the team cant pick the player up correctly when the player drives .
apparently he was frustrating carter so much that he had only scord 43 points in 3 quarters. bowen then tried to cheap shot him again it appears. the problem is, they'll say you have to keep your cool and stay in the game, but you get no protection. if the ref isn't going to call it, what should you do? see if he'll end your season next time or do something. then you get thrown out of the game. and if the nba condones these actions by not suspending him, he'll just keep doing it. i'd just play it off when he does it to me and then deck the **** out of him while he's not looking the next time down. one cheapshot deserves another.
Any Spurs fans want to defend Bowen? I remember last year when he pulled this crap there were fans in here defending him. Seems like each and everytime Bowen pulls this stuff it gets worse and worse. I have had it with Bowen.
Looking really closely at those replays, I'm 95% sure that Carter was actually hooking his leg around Bowen's. VC was sick of (probably legit) physical play out of Bowen all game, and tried to create a foul to bait the refs in to callling something. Seriously. Watch the replay again. I swear I'm not making this up. I'm also sure that Bowen was getting away with stuff all game. Evan
Are you kidding me? I'm sure Carter couldn't handle the physical play of Bruce... as he was just merely dropping 43 points in over 3 quarters of play on the man. He went bezerk simply because Bowen did the same thing to him that he did 2 years ago that ended his season... that's it. He loved the head-butt (as Bowen's feebile attempt to get Vince tossed the first time), and he probably would have gone off for 55+ had he stayed in the game. Nobody is scared of Bruce Bowen's physical play... they're pissed off at him trying to delibritely trip and hurt players after they shoot.
Undercutting is the most dangerous thing in basketball. It doesn't look violent, but can seriously injure a player. With all the jumping in basketball, it's easy to undercut someone unintentionally, let alone intentionally. I hate undercutter. That's what Karl Malone used to do. Basketball should have a rule that heavily punishes undercutting. Heck, they should punish unintentional undercutting just to make them doubly careful about it.
Bruce Bowen is, yes, a cheap-shot punk; he, yes, should have been tossed from that game. He obviously tangled up with Carter. But was it to hurt? Was it reckless? Definitely the latter, but he did exactly what Pop probably told him to do: if you can't guard him, get into his head. I wish I could say, "Vince should have been the smarter player," but his emotions were riding high and Bowen had but to tweak them. Carter gets tossed. Nets lose. How the officials always fall for the scumbags' ploys is amazing, but Bowen went from being way overpaid to earning his money, all in the course of one game.
Dwayne Wade just hurt Parker a little. Watch out Wade, Bowen is on the prowl and he does not like anyone to mess with his team.
Bowen is a very quiet dirty player. I remember Bowen taking both Carter and Ray Allen out of games last season. Undercutting is a very dangerous move, especially for guys like Carter, who can jump with the best of them. Bowen loves "unintentionally" stick his foot under jumpers, and coincidentally, they end up rolling their ankle on their his foot. I hate Bruce Bowen and I always will, he is as dirty as they come, he just knows how to play it off, sort of. But someone needs to undercut him or Timmy D, one turn deserves another.
