First of all, Kerri Kasem has a manface and no ass.

Second, Im pretty sure Ms Kasem does not speak for all women.

I can't imagine these "back-up men" just waiting on the sidelines for the chance to drop everything in their lives to be with a divorced woman are of high quality anyways. I suppose for an attractive woman in her early thirties that has no career prospects this might prove useful.

Asked my wife. She confirmed that she knows a guy who would drop everything he had to be with her if we were to end it or if I died. But, don't worry, said she. I would rather be alone than be with that guy.

Not really a "backup husband" but more like a "worst case scenario husband."

She asked me what I would do if we broke up or she died and before I could answer she answered it herself: "Let me guess: strippers and and naïve 20-somethings?" She knows me too well.

Combine the premise of the thread (women having backup plans) with the fact that over two thirds of divorces are initiated by women, and you have a pretty easy explanation as to why men are more mentally/emotionally hurt by divorce.

    Read Otto's post.

From an evolutionary standpoint, women have had to depend on their mates for a long, long time. This whole concept of the single woman (especially the single mom) is new, but the leaveovers from the days of hunting and gathering are still very much there. Makes absolute sense on a lot of levels that women would have a soft place to land picked out prior to splitting up.
