That is all he has to offer because his arguments are baseless. Just ignore him like the rest of us do, or if you are in the mood for some crack back at his pompous remarks...

I would if they would post it online...
But from sources other then CNN or MSNBC it appears there is a lot of wasteful pet projects being slipped into the bill.

“The American people have a right to know what’s in this bill"

Ah, those republicans, they still have a sense of humor.

i don't care if your a republican or democrat or whatever, how can any elected official in good conscience vote for something they didn't read completely. that seems almost criminal. and that fact that apparently it is a common practice is even more scary. :(

You are correct, but did you read Sam's response to that issue? It's not new material. They've had days to read the bill. They only have to read the changes to the bill, which they could easily do in a day.

There are some more detailed places to read what's in the bill. This one is pretty simple and shows what the money will be spent on in a general way.

Reading a bill is not like reading a novel. Lawmakers have staffs. You take chunks, divide it amongst the staff and everyone reports back in two hours on what they found. No big deal, particularly here, where the bulk of the bill has been circulating for weeks and there have been previous votes. On a related note, I've already seen a number of emails flying around about the specifics in the Conference Bill for public lands, firefighting, federal building renovation, energy, etc.

Now, this process is distinctly different from what sometimes happened under Repub rule, where the first version of bills were presented at the time of their vote or the version that came out of the Repub only Conference was dropped in Dems laps minutes before the vote with no verbal or written notice of what changed. In this case, some Dems asked for more time between the conference report

Republicans are in the minority. They lost the last two elections and elections have consequences. They don't get to write 50% of every bill. They have the minority's right to obstruct and slow down the process, but again, they are currently the minority.

(I would add that Obama has already met more times with Repub House members than Bush ever did with Dem House members.)

I think the point is that Congress should not come out and specifically say that this bill will be posted for X number of hours before it comes to a vote and then turn around and not do that (although it hasn't officially happened yet).

This has nothing to do with the previous administration, how large the bill is, how important the bill is or how many staffers someone had to read the bill.

Don't say one thing and then not do it.

Breaking: The House has passed the final version of the economic stimulus bill, 246-183.

No Republicans voted for the bill.

I read this and it all sounds good, but the devil is in the details and without specifics of how all these wonderful benefits are going to happen with the $760+ billion dollars its hard to say go.

It's not the good things I'm worried about.

What I would like to see is a bill that tells us all the different ways the guberment is going to cut spending during these hard times like the rest of us ordinary folks are. I would like to see an actual cut not just a lower increase.

So you would like to see a stimulus bill that worsens the downturn by lowering aggregate demand?

    Wow that is great.

Why don't you wish for a plague of locusts, category 5 hurricanes, and a nuclear reactor meltdown while you are at it.

End the Practice of Writing Legislation Behind Closed Doors: As president, Barack Obama will restore the American people’s trust in their government by making government more open and transparent. Obama will work to reform congressional rules to require all legislative sessions, including committee mark-ups and conference committees, to be conducted in public. By making these practices public, the American people will be able to hold their leaders accountable for wasteful spending and lawmakers won’t be able to slip favors for lobbyists into bills at the last minute.

    Words.

He's been in office three weeks and is dealing with several problems, any one of which would be the absolute toughest for several previous administrations. The promise he made was to work to reform congressional rules not demand an immediate change. It takes a little time and cajoling for the President to get Congress to adapt internal reforms. Given what is happening, it is not a priority today.

Carry on with your whining though.

Well I have this funny idea called fiscal responsibility. You know... I make this much and I spend that much or less. It's crazy I know.

$760+ billion has to be paid for somehow right?

If I managed my finances like the American government I would be call a counterfeiter.
