Good thing for Roy that he got his max contract before the wheels fell out.

Too bad his prime was cut short like that. But that's life. You got to move on.

That's what I figured. It just scar tissue acting in place of cartilage. That's why I put quotations around "regrow" because I knew the body cannot grow cartilage once it is depleted.

How about a cartilage transplant from Yao? He still has cartilage and won't be needing it.

Or how about a foot transplant from Roy? He still has feet and won't be needing them.

Roy has no cartilage in either knee while T-mac is missing some cartilage in 1 knee.

The difference is jumping out of a plane with a parachute that is too small and jumping out a of a plane without a parachute. Both are bad, but one is definitely worse.

I mentioned this in another thread. This issue will affect him for the rest of his life, whether or not he continues to play basketball. I honestly feel he should put playing behind him and try to become a coach or something. It is sad, but I think would benefit him in the long run.

All the major treatments for this are questionable in their success rates. Micro-fracture could work, but you never know with the amount of scar you are trying to produce you could make it work too well causing problems. The best thing would likely be a transplant, but that can shaky if body rejects the cartilage, and research tends to show they do not last very long. The problem with IGF treatments are that there is a lot we still do not understand with hormone management and modification. Especially in the tight spaces with joints and the varied affects that IGF can cause, you run in the similar problem that the treatment could work too well given Roy's current lack of all cartilage.

So what if he got his max contract? His entire life revolved around basketball, he became established as a professional, and now it's all taken away from him before he reached his prime. It's tough to live a content life after that if you put yourself in Brandon Roy's shoes.

We're talking about a real winner here, not Corey Maggette!

    Ugh, this is just terrible.

Needless to say, we'll all be hoping for the best.

But yeah, maybe you consider some experimental stuff if you're in his shoes. Maybe you don't.

This is probably the heart break NBA story of the decade...One of the most moddest and hardworking basketball players I have ever seen and an allstar at that...and his career is literally destroyed by injury..not slowed..not derailed....completely destroyed...

It's a damn shame. Roy was on his way to becoming one of the best scorers in the league.

The surgeon may very well be right, but he also may very well be a huge a*******. Medical consultants leaking info to the press is bad enough, but what the hell kind of surgeon has recommendations to that level of specificity about basketball? "Play him off the bench in 65-75 or so games a season, choosing rest in key spots" Coming off the bench for X minutes, rather than starting for X minutes, will somehow help his knees? Thats not a medical recommendation a surgeon somehow has insight on.

"I am a orthopedic surgeon, and i feel it necessary to break doctor-patient confidentiality rules to say that I definitely know that Brandon Roy should be quicker to dump the ball in pick and roll situations."

    100% disagree.

In the years he played, him, Yao & Artest would've brought home a title to the Rockets. I think Yao, Tmac, and him would've had a good shot at least 1 as well.

I would take him going down, and essentially not having Battier, in return for at least 1 championship.

I agree with you. If we had Roy in that 7-game playoff series against the Lakers, it could have meant an extra few points to win one more game. Having Roy was a difference maker. He and Artest would have made a bigger impact than Artest and Battier in that series. Even the other years, it would have been great.

Roy instead of Battier could have helped the Rockets win more games in the regular season to get homecourt advantage in the 1st and 2nd round. Rockets defense would have still been great with Deke, Yao and JVG on the team. They had some serious offensive problems in the 4th quarter and kept losing leads. Roy, Yao and T-Mac would have made life easier for each other.
